I put a red dot on a mini 14 scout rail. The problem is sighting it in it will not adjust far enough down it high impact at full adjustment

Now if I lower the red dot itself will that move the point of impact the correct way or make the problem worse? Do I need to raise it?

Mini dot. I put it on the pictinny portion of the rail to test it and see if I liked a red dot on that particular rifle. I have the hanibal rail that has places to attach red dots like the fastfire directly. This one is a rite on I had lying around.

If I take it off the pictinny base and attach directly it will sit lower but no point in going through the Hassel if it will not work

First off, Riton red dots are absolute junk. Don't expect good results with them, and if you get it to work it probably won't last very long.
It's very likely the adjustments aren't moving as you'd expect, and may not have a very big range of adjustment.

Second, changing the vertical height of the optic would only change your POI by the amount you moved it; not much point in doing that. What you need is to change the angle of the optic. Likely it's the rail you're mounting to that is at the wrong angle; it may need to be re-installed by a professional to get things lined up correctly.

The other possibility is that you're adjusting the red dot in the wrong direction. Did you try adjusting the other way?

It was hitting high so I adjusted the poi a couple times ....then bottomed out

I agree it is junk. But it was sitting around so I thought I would try it to see if I liked the red dot. I will probably eventually get a fastfire or other better red dot. I just don't want to spend the money on a new one and have the same.problem.

Aimpoint T1, T2 or Acro depending on your application - assuming you want to keep a red dot going forward.

Search the PX here for deals on Aimpoints...

Many of the MRDS have a 1 degree down angle in their bases. That accommodates the mechanical down angle built into browning design pistol barrel lockup. It’s a feature for dots designed for auto pistols. Not all MRDS have this, but many of the chinese made dots do. Recall that 1 degree is 60 MOA. At 25 yards that’s 15 inches; a lot of difference.

I discovered this the hard way when mounting a popular chinese red dot on a revolver. My solution was to mill the adapter plate to get the dot level again; reverse the 1 degree offset. Then everything worked out fine.

I have no experience with Riton. It may or may not have this feature depending on the OEM.

I was able to zero my SRO without trouble on a revolver. No doubt it would work the same way with a carbine.

Different dots have different housing geometry. Most retailers have no clue so it becomes trial and error.

Hope this helps
