Red locktite nut to barrel

With the rise of using Savage-style threads for prefit barrels on custom actions (Bighorn, Mausingfield, Ultimatium, etc) I was wondering if anyone has tried using red locktite to secure a nut to the barrel?

The reason I’m looking at doing this is I have a Bignhorn TL3 & I’d Like to create a similar set-up to reubenski’s where you can change the barrel quickly in the field. The only difference is I’d like to try & do it with a pre-fit.

I’ve talked to a few people and they all Say it can be done… in theory, but no one who’s actually done it.

I’ve done it to a handful. It works fine and I screw the barrels on and off afterwards just like a shouldered barrel. It will work just like you’re hoping it will.

How do you tighten the barrel down? Can you change it without disabling the rifle?

Initially I headspace and tighten the nut just like any other barrel nut install. Afterwards I treat it like a shouldered barrel, and use a barrel vise and action wrench for barrel removal and installation.

I have plans to add flats to the end of the barrel in order to change without the vise, but I haven’t made it happen yet. Based on my experience thus far with the glued on nuts, I won’t treat them any differently than a shouldered barrel when doing so.

I was listening to the everyday sniper pod casts & Frank suggested a barre should have +70 ft/# of torque. However, seeing the results your getting I’m going to try this anyways.
The rifle is together & I'm getting loading up some rounds to test this week.

I don't use anything on a barrel nut. Or the barrel threads. I give the wrench a couple of taps with a hammer past hand tightened with the wrench. Not sure about proper torque, obviously.
