I read some where online that to get a really good cleanig on your Redding Comp DIE is to take it apart, and throw it into a media tumbler (minus the micrometer head). I cant find anywhere on the HIDE where someone has done this.

My Redding Comp DIE has a little rust in the sleeve part of it. I took it apart, and degreased it, but the rust is still there. (the inside walls where the case sits)
Do I-
A: throw it in the tumbler?
B: take an over sized bore brush and scrub the sleeve to get the rust out?
C: None of the above.

Re: Redding Comp DIE cleaning

Remove sleeve from die body. Try a small piece of green scotchbrite soaked with your cleaner of choice on the end of a undersized/wornout bronze bristlebrush. Flush out the tiny green grit, lube and reassemble.

If you cannot remove the rust with a simple light polish return the dies to Redding and have them do it for you to avoid significantly changing clearances in the die set. Cheaper than buying new dies but it is a lot easier to simply grease or silicon oil them before storage.
