I am interested in upgrading my standard Redding seating dies with a mic gauge seating die assembly. Redding makes two styles. One is for "standard" bullets and the other is for VLD style bullets. I read that some bullets, even though they are not listed as "vld" bullets, are long enough to have the tip touch - or bottom out on the seating stem.
To eliminate this possibility, I'm thinking about ordering the vld mic. seating assembly in leu of the standard. Can I use the vld seating stem with standard bullets as well? I'm guessing the stem is just engaging the surface of the bullet's ogive, therefor it should work on both "standard", as well as vld style bullets. I don't know if I'm missing something here.

Re: redding seating mic.

Just got mine in last week. The vld mic. It's just like the normal mics just a little smaller. Like milo says go with the vld stem. The person at redding recommended this as it will seat any bullet. I might just start buying the series d packages and mic and save a few bucks.
But the mic is very easy to set up. And well worth the $ as you will know where you are in your depth.
