Redfield peep sights

A neighbor Lady gave me a bag of sights, since I am a shooter. Her husband RIP was a rather good shooter and did a lot of competitive shooting back in the day. I shot with him some when he felt up to it and he was good. With that in mind, I think these sights are from the 50/60s era.
#1 is a Redfield front sight. The tube is 3 inches long, tube dia. is .810 ,the bell or front disc dia. is 1.310 It has a mount to go on a dovetail w/tightening screw knob. It has a place to put in inserts but there are no inserts
It is stamped Redfield Olympic Model
#2 is a Redfield rear peep sight stamped Redfield International Match, has a screw knob to attach to the receiver on the left side. Elev+ windage knobs stamped MK8 all screws are pristine and all threads good.
#3 is a Redfield PALMA. Adjustment knobs are marked UP and R with arrows and has good detents.click by click. There are 2 small set screws in each knob
All of these are in fine shape other than a little dust that an air hose would remove easily.
What have I got? It is a bin of shit or is there some interest out there?

Lots of folks will want old Redfield match sights. Not as good as Warner or PNW but work quite well regardless. Do some pricing research on GB or EB.
M24 builders will want the Palma rear.

I think the Olympic and International could have come from a Rem. 40x especially if he was ever into smallbore. Definitely still a market for them.

Redfield Olympic fronts go for around $129. The International rear for $170 (just bought one) up to $250, The Palma around $220. International fronts and rear are the hardest to find. International and Palma rears command higher prices than the Olympic rear. Olympic fronts are pretty common and have a pretty standard price of $129. I'm pretty up to date on the Redfield collecting scene from my M24 build and my current Winchester Model 70 International Army project.

Every now and then they pop up on the CMP site, each time the price goes up and they sell fast.

I use to run the AK NG Marksmanship Unit. We had 40 Model 52 Winchesters and H&Rs that came with these sights. When I was signing over the property books upon retirement I have a bucket full of them, I game my soon to be replacement crap for this storage method. He said he was going to turn in that stuff as he didnt want to be responsible for it.

Found out later they went the trash bin, along with a foot locker full of M14 mags. Tons of other stuff (I spend years garthering) that wasnt considered property book items.

Should have loaded it all up and kept it, I'm sure I could have found a good home for those treasures.

It's frustrating as all get out to watch the "You can't have it, that would be 'unfair'." "So, let's throw it away, that would be a much better use of stuff 'we' (they) don't need anymore." Here's a pic of all the different Redfield sights. There were basically two different front sights...the Olympic and the International. In the pic, from left to right, is the Big Bore International, an Olympic, another variation of the Olympic, and a smaller sight made for the Remington 540. The long steel sight is the Olympic. The shorter aluminum sight is the International, also called the Big Bore. The Olympic can be found with and without the large front "bell". There was no Palma front sight. The Big Bore International would be the choice for the Palma...that is the same front used on the M24 SWS.

I have "Sold" these sights to Rick Jones and since he is an Officer and a Gentleman with Savvy and Deboner, I am sure he will treat me right and he was the first to speak up and knows the funds will be donated to building our new range out here in Sterling, Colorado.

I like my Palma sight just about as well as my PNW ,,it works as well it is just not as easy to keep track where I am,,and I use the Olympic front with my Palma rear when I can but it wont fit the base on my Cz and Brno smallbores.

there are adapters to use the Gehmann and Anschutz adjustable iris`s on the Olympic and International rear sights but the Palma is threaded to screw the Gehmann straight to the sight,

it is a blast shooting steel plates at 1,000 yards with these old sights with guys using 5.5-22 NXS scopes,,when some new guys come around they kinda giggle when I pull out my sights and they ask "what you gonna do with those,,waste your bullets?" they usually dont laugh very long..

as long as I have a spotter that can give me good info I can surprise myself sometimes,,

I have my PNW on my centerfire sights rifle right now and my Palma on my CZ452 Ultra Lux that is a blast to shoot also

the Palma on the 452 will zero at 25 yards and maxes out at about 330 with subsonic match ammo,,standing off hand I can hit better with it than my M4 style Carbine AR15,,

the sights on the 6.5 are badass,,zero at 100 yards and the Mo`s front has 5 MOA adjustments ,I need 27 MOA for 1,000 yards so that is 5 lines on the front and then 8 clix on the rear and you are there without jackin your rear sight up and losing your cheek weld,,as long as the target is big enough for me to see and I have somebody that can spot worth a crap I can hit pretty good way out there,,with a .75 diopter lens in the front I hit a 10 inch plate 5 times in a row at 1,000 yards with that rifle one afternoon,,,,that was off the bipod though..

the PNW and Palma both track as good as any scope I ever had and all you have to do is center your target and shoot,,the only downside to shooting sights at long range is you cant see your hits and have to rely on your spotter for info and you pretty much have to dial wind or I do at least as hold off is inexact science with the sights I use,,

whoever got that box of sights has some very nice stuff,,,maybe not Warner or Centra grade sights but very nice especially for the 40X and 52B smallbore rifles,

This is a great thread. In the 90's I was in Camp Pendelton for some work by 3rd echelon armorer/maintenance, They had a bin filled with those sights and some boxes too. I was out of the corp for maybe 4 years at the time and asked the young sgt what they were doing with them. All to salvage, he said. I lamented about it and because I cared and knew what they were, helped me go over and find a box and gave me a set, still got them today. He was kind enough to throw a few extra sights and plastic colored lenses in too.

Redfield Olympic fronts go for around $129. The International rear for $170 (just bought one) up to $250, The Palma around $220. International fronts and rear are the hardest to find. International and Palma rears command higher prices than the Olympic rear. Olympic fronts are pretty common and have a pretty standard price of $129. I'm pretty up to date on the Redfield collecting scene from my M24 build and my current Winchester Model 70 International Army project.
