I found my Grandfather's old Lo-pro Widefield scope and I wanted some history on it as I have other things. But I've run across a stalemate that I thought some of you guys could clarify for me.
There is No Serial number on this scope. The only thing on this scope is Redfield 3 x 9 on one turrent (the dial) and DO stamped on the other one .
I don't know what the DO stands for , I can't find any info on it. I have no idea the year made or why it wouldn't have serial never.
Thank You for your time and input!
I'll try to get the pics posted as well

Does it say Redfield Denver on the eyepiece?

It's your standard 3x9 scope from probably the 70's or early 80's. The "Widefield" moniker was just a marketing scheme. It didn't give you any wider field of view. That tidbit came from John McCarty himself who at the time was working at Redfield. He is also a co-founder of Burris Optics with Don Burris.

As far as the eye piece, There are no markings (none). There are no markings anywhere besides on the torrents.
This is what's confusing me.
The style and the yellowish printed Red field 3 x 9 are 1970s models IN US. ( even the Japan models would be stamped and the ones I saw were more white stamping of Redfield)
The Odd "DO" stamp has no reference that I cam find besides being used as the green color for the USMC)

Unless this was a protype that was used and found its way into circulation ( I did read the USMC was sent some w blank serial numbers for testing before they discontinued use of redfield or possibly it was sent out for repair and the occular lens was changed. I can't find an explanation for no markings. And no explanation for no serial nber

I was looking for info on my Redfield 3x9 Widefield scope and ran across this thread. Here’s some helpful info. They would take an objective lens and grind away the top and bottom portions creating a rectangular objective. This is not about increased FOV, but rather a lower profile. This allows the scope to be mounted very low on the rifle which is an important feature for all those vintage rifles with stocks designed for open sights. So you’re getting a lower profile scope allowing a better cheek weld without losing FOV.

I think DO refers to duplex objective. I have several of these Redfield scopes in boxes that I purchased from Redfield in Denver, Co around 1969-70. I will look for some information in the next few day. Some of the scopes have a built in rangefinder.
