Reduce Gas From Surpressor?

I recently added a can to my 16in RRA which works great but the problem is that the pressure is causing gas to escape around the charging handle and into my eyes. I saw Midway has a PRI charging handle that is supposed to help with this but it is $90!! Is there a less expensive solution to this or a cheaper gas buster? Can you modify the existing charging handle? Any other tricks?

I run gasbuster CHs on all my ARs that I shoot suppressed and they do an excellent job of preventing blowback like what you are describing.

If you don't want to spend the money on the PRI GB, there is always the RTV route. Doesn't look as "purdy" but it does the job pretty well. Here is a link for instructions on the RTV modification:

Thanks, ORD!! I had seen references to RTV in the search and couldn't figure out WTF that meant.

The BCM gunfighter CH helps some. Not as efficient as the gas buster, but cheaper and stronger.

I would recommend an adjustable gas block. That way you solve the problem of excess gas before it even gets into the receiver. Less wear and tear on your gun, less gunk back into the receiver, just better all around. JP has a couple models, PRI has one, and Noveske's switchblock is awesome if you can spend the extra. I know it's as expensive or more than the GB charging handle, but I think it's a better solution to the problem.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the PRI Gasbuster as they seem to be more failure prone at the roll pin. I like the Gas Vent which replaces the forward assist. You can get one from my buddy Roy at Weapon Outfitters. He sent me one to T&E and I used it on a suppressed SBR in an EAG Tactical class. 1300rds with plenty of NSRs and only ONE instance of gas face

If you are reloading (I hope you are), try some N-120, fairly fast powder, very clean, used for a number of 5.56 rounds by Lapua-including some tracer offering. Not a good choice for heavy projectiles, if your shooting heavy-try N-130, plenty of gas at the port to run the gun. One size fits all loads usually are not the best for a can.

Even with the RTV mod to the charge handle and an adjustable gas block, the gas will still roll out. Shooting an AR with a can sucks.

I had resorted to putting a hand towel over the back of the upper and the stock. Still had to fold it over to stop the gas because it will come out under the handle where you can't put RTV.
