Reloads for HK45C

Hey Fellas,

1st off I apologize if this is posted in the wrong section, please correct me if I'm wrong. Secondly, I know this forum is mainly long range driven, but y'all are the only forum that I am apart of so I would appreciate any guidance that y'all may have to offer me. My question is, Is it safe to make my COAL no lower than 1.190"? I would be lying if I told you exactly what I ended up with, but when I finally seated the bullet far enough down to where it would chamber/eject, I was in the ball park of 1.192. Now everywhere I look, most folks have their OAL around 2.250". What I am worried about with seating so deep is case pressure. I am fairly new to this hobby but I think all you would need to know is bullet type and powder. I have made my own .45acp bullets out of lead using a lee mold. The bullet weight is 230 gr. truncated cone. Diameter is .452". ( For the record I know lead through polygonal barrels is not great, but for grins I wanted to load a few.) I am using Unique powder. If there is anyone out there with knowledge on this subject I would sure appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

Lead through a poly barrel isnt an issue provided its completely cleaned with lead remover prior to shooting jacketed.

I would say, as long as you are starting at min published loads and working up you wont have an issue, thats not THAT short. I wouldnt start with a max load though obviously.

What does the OAL of just the bullet measure compared to say a 230g RN? Most load data for 230g I have is for RN bullets and I have some that say 1.200 is min OAL, so if your bullet is SHORTER than a 230g RN than a shorter OAL wont be an issue.

I am not sure I guess I need to pull a fmj and find out when I get the chance I will compare and get back with you. If in fact it is a shorter bullet what would you load your powder charge at using unique when the OAL is that short?
