I am thinking of buying some Reloder 16 powder for loading 147 gr bullets. I am happy with H4350 in my 140gr bullet loads. I have read somewhere that I may acclerate barrel wear with the Reloder powder. Is there any truth to that?

Thanks!

I've put a keg of it through a 6x47 and 6.5 creedmoor. The current 6x47 barrel has a little fire cracking at the 520 round mark but overall not bad, and the 6.5 barrel looks pretty decent at 800 rounds. If it does accelerate wear, it's not much.

Nothing is wrong with H4350 other than at times it's been rather troublesome to get ahold of at times nd seems to be in limited quantities when it is available. For that reason people have been staritng to veer off to other alternatives. The pro to the Alliant powders is that they are relatively easy to find, work, and achieve higher velocities at lower or equal pressures. In my 22" barrel, I have 147's nearing 2850fps comfortably and in my old 24" upwards of 2900fps. Using Rl16 and the 140's I was about 100fps faster, using less powder than H4350 and still had great brass life with Norma brass.

Yeah thanks.
I stocked some 18 lbs of 4350, so guess i will stick with it.
Plus I dug out some 140 eldm projectiles in the garage that I thought I did not have.
Loaded some for test and 42.5 is best just like everyone is saying.
Guess I will be on 4350/140 gr eld for a while.
Hopefully the powder is out at the same time with the bullets, the I can switch to r16/147 eld
