So I went down the rabbit hole, trying to find out how old my Rem 1100 20G is. 1st off, WTF were they thinking with the barrel codes for dates?
Anyway, I have a barrel date code of AK, and a serial# of 792XXX. The way I understand it, A=March, K=1941, or 1963, or 1990, or 2016.
I read a couple places that Rem started using a letter prefix with serial numbers in 1968. So, not having a prefix leads me to believe my 1100 is from March 1963. Unless I have it completely screwed up, which is entirely possible.
Any experts on the matter care to chime in?
TIA!
