Rem 597 HB (16.5")

Re: Rem 597 HB (16.5")

distantplinker's wholesalers didnt give reasons why, but they couldn't order them either. No one has an answer to this? Is this a market trend... like do I need to just wait? It seems like it's been out long enough.

So that mean's it was the 20 inch barrel model then, right Brian?

Re: Rem 597 HB (16.5")

I believe they're just re-introducing this model. I know they dropped them all for a year and only had higher $ models on the same action. The older ones did not have a .920 diameter HB, it was something like .865. I believe it would be a 20" barrel.

Yeah, they may not have the aftermarket of the 10/22, but all it needs is a Volquartsen target hammer and you're done. The factory barrel was excellent on the one I owned. I guess some guys just like to take a $200 .22 and make it worth more than a grand.

Why wouldn't you go with the AAC-SD model? It's 16.5 and threaded already. I do prefer the laminate stock over the synthetic though.

Re: Rem 597 HB (16.5")

It's actually for my little brother who lives in upstate NY... which if I remember correctly you can't have a semi with a threaded barrel. Am I wrong?

Anyway, anyone else have any input on locating one of these 16.5 hb's?

Re: Rem 597 HB (16.5")

I bought one of these in the VTR version in February 2012 and have had nothing but trouble with it. You are lucky to go through a hundred rounds without a jam. It kicks the spent casing back up into the chamber an lays it sideways(if you're lucky) or drops it in behind the bolt facing backwards. I have fired Aguila, Blazer, Remington and a few different CCI versions of ammo with the same result.

When I stepped up the ammo to CCI Segmented HP pushing 1640fps the extractor popped out. I Lost the plunger in the sand south of Boise. Managed to recover the extractor and spring. Took it to Wrenco Arms in Sandpoint and they fixed it for free, but I have not fired it since.

The accuracy is alright. It will put out 2" groups at 100 yards and was hell on the whistle pigs, as long as you could keep it feeding.

For the money there has to be a more reliable .22 out there that will perform the same.

I have barely put 2000 rounds through this one and if I thought I could get my $370.00 back out of it I would sell it.

Just my $.02
