Guys,

What can you say about this model? I understand it is approx 50% more expensive than most of the standard 700 Models, but stainless action and protective anti-corrosion coating sounds appealing... As well as "Full-length aluminum bedding block".

I am not quite sure how good "416 stainless steel ... action" is, and what "dish-style target crown" means.

What were your impressions about quality of its stock and TriNyte coating? Any other impressions from this model? Worth the price?

Cheers

I picked one of these up when they first came out. It shot 3 MOA or worse at 100 yards with all different Varget/175 SMK loads, even proven loads that shoot in the .1's in my custom .308. I scraped everything but the action. Spartan Precision trued that action (it was way out of spec), spun a Bartlein MTU on it, I installed a Timney and put it in an AICS. Now it shoots in the .1's.

I have one in 300wm, the stock is fairly light, I imagine it would kick pretty good. I put mine in a Cadex chassis and it was still just a little too much. I had a break put on it and the trigger tuned up, it shoots really good now, like .25" with the reloads it liked and nothing worse than .75".. The factory crown looked good but my guy redid it anyway. The coating is pretty tough and the bolt is really smooth. The coating seems to make it a fast barrel, about 100fps faster than the book said for my reloads. I like it and think its probably worth the money, I got mine used so I don't really know what retail is.

The one I got couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. I had the action trued and the bbl set back .001. Also, had the action bedded in the B&C stock it came with. After all of that it shot .25 MOA. However, I ended up selling it to my brother when he was getting started into long range shooting. I did tell him I would buy it back whenever he decided to sell it. All of that said, I would just get a R700 Varmint rifle and go from there or shell out the bucks and go for a TRG 22 then don't look back.

Re: Rem 700™ XCR™ Tactical Long Range

well lets take an AAC for example. i picked one up for about $730.

that B&C stock is a $250 stock.
so is that coating and oddly shaped barrel worth an extra $500 to you?

also a SPS Long Range can be picked up for about $750. that way you won't regret spending the extra 500 when you end up having it sprayed with CeraKote, buying an after market stock, and swamping the barrel.

if you want it just the way it is out of the box then i suggest finding someone in your area who has one and seeing if you can get behind it. that way you know if you even like the stock at least.

EDIT:
heres another example of an over priced remington. same rifle can be built for less. they put on a B&C stock (450 bucks) and some crazy looking barrel (nice marketing gimmick) and charge 2k.

Re: Rem 700™ XCR™ Tactical Long Range

I have an XCR in 7-08 and it was .50 MOA right out of the box. After doing a load work up with several bullets and powder charges...........still shoots .50 moa. I hunt with it and shots are usually under 200 so I just use it. Was fighting the urge to send it to SPR so I sent my .308 instead.
