Gunsmithing rem 700 action question

this is probably a dumb question but i figure you guys are getting usto that from me. but im thinking of building a indiana legal deer rifle chambered in 358 bfg. if i do the build on a rem 700 trued action and a year or 2 down the line they change the laws and the gun becomes worthless i could just rebarrel it to a ? and still have a usful gun.

Since I don't know the Indiana hunting regulations I'll just stay clear on this one.

I had to look it up to see what a "358 BFG" was but it looks to be a WSM/WSSM bolt face. Unless you have to have other mods you should be able to hang a new WSM barrel on it and go.

it is a wssm bolt face (should have added that)

that being said what if i wanted to turn it into a 22-250. could i just get a diffrent bolt face?

No, you would have to have it welded up to go down to 22-250 size. In that case it might be easier/better/cheaper to buy a new bolt or sell the action and buy a correct one.

Unless there are other mods to the action to make the 358BFG fit or feed, the only issue you are likely to have with changing to a 22-250 is the bolt face size. A new bolt would fix that, as would welding and recutting the bolt face on your current bolt. I just mentioned the new bolt option because I believe a new PTG bolt is only about $125 which is probably less that what bolt face work would run you. The new bolt would have to be fitted to your action but that would most likely be part of the new barrel installation anyways.
