I'm about to mount a 33.6 oz Steiner Military scope w NF Ultralight rings onto a Rem 700 7mm Mag. The mount currently on the rifle is an $40 EGW 20 MOA Tactical picatinny rail mount (aluminum & no recoil lug.) The mount isn't bedded, thought there is blue Loctite on the screws. Its a hunting rifle weighing ~7.5 lbs, and I'll be running Berger 168 grainers.

Has anybody had the base mounting screws shear / fail on their Rem 700?

Am I asking for trouble & should I get a better mount with a recoil lug (steel?) and bed it with JB Weld first?

What's the reputation of these EGW mounts?

Thanks, B

I have a Christensen Arms 7wsm with a vortex 4-16x50pst(22.4oz.) that had the talley light weight rings on it (no guide lug). The supplied hex screws with the rings were super short and after 3 boxes of ammo the mounts came loose almost stripping the holes out. Fix was cleaning threads out and getting proper length screws to have enough thread depth to hold it down!
