rem 700 scope mount screw size

Trying to purchase picatinny rail mount for rem 700 long range 7mm rem mag. Two different screw sizes to choose from. 6-48 or 8-40 mounting screws. Anybody know which size is correct. Want to purchase 20 moa seekins rail and they give two sizes.

6-48 is how they come from the factory. 8-40s are for guys that want bigger screws.

Are the bigger screws necessary for the 7mm mag. Or factory size is adequate.

If you want to run 8-40 screws, you will have to have your action holes opened up and tapped to accept them. Unless you want to send your rifle to a smith, just get the 6-48's.

Also you will want to check to make sure that the screws aren't protruding in the action to far.
