rem 700p 40x trigger issues

need some insight on a trigger issue im having with a rem 700 40x trigger.
im having inconsistent trigger pulls. i set it originally at about 2lbs. thats was 500 rounds ago. now im starting to get really heavy pulls. but one thing ive discoverd if i push down on the bolt shroud every time after i close the bolt i get a normal trigger pull. any insight would be great.

I had very similar issues on the same rifle. Never could get the bugs worked out, I know that ain't what ya wanna hear. I put a timney in it.
