Rem 700P, 5R or not?

I've been considering adding a Remington .308 700 Police to my collection, specifically a 24" 5R. I've been eyeing the 5R 24" barreled actions that Eurooptic has, but I think I'd rather buy a complete rifle at the moment since I'm a fan of the regular H-S stock.

The only complete 700Ps I've seen in-stock anywhere are the non-5R 24" barrels with the 1:10 twist, I'm not seeing any 1:11.25 5R 700Ps anywhere.

I plan on loading 175gr SMKs, and I'll only be shooting around 400-600y for now. Will the 5R be better in any way, or will I get similar results out of either rifle? As much as I'd like to do a build off of a 5R barreled action, the complete 700P appears to be easier on the wallet.

Thanks in advance.

I have had good luck with my 2 5r's. I started with a 24" that my friend wanted so I sold it to him. I have a 20" now and it shoots 1/4-1/2" depending on how well I can manage the heavy factory trigger.

This kit was actually my original plan, amazing deal, but I'm trying to keep the budget under $1K.
I actually do like the HS stock, I find it to be very comfortable, it's a classic for sure. Arms Unlimited has the non-5R 700P w/ HS stock for $750, just trying to decide if I should see 5R as a deal breaker or not....

Thats a good price at $750, we have a few stores down here with 700p 308 5R's in stock, but they are like in the $875-910 price range.

Just noticed that Remington's website is showing that product # 86672, which is what Arms Unlimited has, is actually a 5R 1:10 barrel.... So I guess the only difference between it and the eurooptic kits would be the twist rate....

Am I interpreting this right?

I have a older 700p in 308 with the 1-12 twist and it shoots the 175 smk really good. Just pick one there won't be much of a difference in accuracy between those two. I would plan on changing out the trigger though as the x-mark didn't impress.

700Ps that Ive seen all have the 40x trigger.

I was about the comment the same that my old 700P in 308 came in 1:12 twist on the 26" bull barrel.

I had an older 700P. Great rifle, loved the stock. I have been debating all day whether to replace it or not, seems like a great price. Just don't want to be let down by the new Remington.

The original HS Precision stock on my 700P died sometime in 2019 after over 15 years. Had a hairline fracture on the front end of the stock. Discovered HS Precision has a lifetime warranty so I sent the broken stock in and they sent me a new one. Very happy HS Precision sent me a new stock so I shouldn't be complaining. Only thing I was disappointed at is the new finish has this bumpy sand paper feeling splatter paint (~2mm bump) on the stock. Guess it's supposed to increase grip, but I prefer the older finish.

These guys think so. 5R but similar setup. My 5R 20” was a hammer as well. I’m a fool for selling it. I am sure the 700 P are just as good.

Received the rifle today, can't wait to get it to the range. Was surprised to see the bolt already had a tactical style knob, and the receiver was drilled for #8-40 screws. Have a Harris S-BRM on the way for it, and looking at a Badger rail. Fit and finish all seem to be great, we'll see how it shoots when it's all put together....

Went that route on my last build. Lugs make great contact. Finish is meh. Haven't really had anytime to play with it due to graduating soon but accuracy seem good. I dropped it into a used HS stock that fell off the apartments balcony and broke the butt pad and a corner out of the stock. H&S repaired and I had it repainted.

I've had it out once since putting it together. I couldn't zero the scope due to user error and the barrel made contact with the forearm of the stock so I really don't have a judgement on accuracy yet. Seemed ok for all my issues. Will give actual results once the thesis calms down.

Did you get it up and running?

I did get it, recently finished putting it together. Just need to find some time to hit the range and see how it shoots. I've got some M118LR, Federal Gold Medal Juggernaut, and Hornady 178gr Match ready to test out. Will be loading my own for it, but just trying some factory ammo for the first shoot.

The 700P has been outfitted with a SWFA 10x42, Seekins rings, Badger 20 MOA rail, Harris SBRM, APA Lil B brake, Triad stock pack, and a Turner sling.

I have a 5r mike rock creek barrel on my 16” AR10. I like it very much.

Finally got my 700P to the range today, and it did not disappoint. I'm a fairly novice shooter and I was consistently getting sub-MOA groups at 100 yards and 200 yards. And 1 MOA at 300 and 400 yards, probably just due to my lack of skill on those. Shooting steel silhouettes at 400 yards was too easy.

Ran a bunch of M118LR, 175 GMM, and 168 GMM through it. Honestly all 3 performed equally.

Attached are two of the best groupings. A 3 round group of 175 GMM and a 5 round group of 168 GMM.
