I have had my Rem 700p .308 for about 3 years, and I've noticed a little "notch" towards the end of my bolt. I don't think it was there when I bought the rifle, but then again I wasn't looking for it. The bolt was cerakoted about a year and a half ago, and the cerakote is starting to wear a little around the notch which worries me a little. The mechanism doesn't seem to be hindered by it.. yet. Has anyone else had this happen with their bolt? Is it anything I should worry about? I have a .223 Rem 700 and that bolt doesn't have a notch.

If I'm not mistaken this is on Remington's new manufacture bolts. I don't know the year that the bolts started looking like this but I know the older ones just have a straight cut, no "notch" like the one that you have. I've seen a thread about this on here and don't think it's anything to worry about. I've got an A series 6 digit receiver on a build going on right now in .308 and my bolt does not have that "notch".

Well, that's good to know. If it comes that way from the factory, any idea why they'd add that little notch? The cerakote is wearing away with a little bit of metal starting to show through. Compared to my .223 bolt, the .308 has quite a bit more wiggle when the bolt is up while in the action.

Thanks a bunch.
