Hey gang, I have a Remington Model 6 that I can't seem to date. The Rem. Society website lists the letters on the underside of the barrel. But they go from U to W... skipping V... Which is whats on the underside of my barrel.
I know the Model 6 was made from 1901 to 1933. And I know there were approximately 498,000 made. Mine is 414xxx.
Now, the Remington Society page states that they started stamping letters for the year in 1921. Going from 1921 (M) to 1933 (B, last year they made this rifle) we get M, N, P, R, S, T, U, W, X, Y, Z, A, B... B being 1933.
According to the Rem. Society site, the V was never used untill the alphabet was recirculated and the V was stamped in 1979. 46 years after the last Model 6 was made. To bar out the possibilities of a 'remake' or 'replacement' or whatever, I'll note that the seriel number on the barrel and the action both match. So it's all the original gun.
I'm stumped... Anyone with some wisdom on this subject to share? Would be appreciated.
