Going to rebuild a Rem700 LA in 284win, and I am wondering about bottom metal/magazine combinations.

I will be using a Criterion RemAge barrel, with whatever their 284win "match" chamber is, and probably ~168gr bullets. Given that I don't know the exact specs of the chamber, I am not even going to bother with 180's.

I would also like the be able to possibly use the same load for this rifle in a Rem7600 pump action that is getting sent to Accuracy Systems to be converted from 30-06 to 284win... and they use a SAAMI spec reamer. Not to worry, since the SAAMI spec tapered throat is pretty forgiving. Hoping 168gr bullets will fit in both rifles. If not, whatever, but it would be nice.

So, what bottom metal/magazines work best for a Rem700 LA in 284win?

Would there be any issue using the ~3.715" magazines when the overall length of a 168gr bullet in a 284win is not going to be anywhere near that?

What brass do you plan on using? Besides the freebore, pretty sure most match reamers are made for necked up 6.5-284 Lapua brass. The neck is thinner and I think it's a little wider near the case head than Win brass.

Probably just going to use Winchester brass to start. I'm ok with turning the necks a little bit if I have to for the match chamber.

Looking at ~3.3304" with a 168gr VLD Litz, to ~3.3384" with a 175gr SMK Litz... the 180gr VLD would be ~3.4104" and the 195gr Elite hunter or whatever comes in at ~3.5304"... 197gr SMK is ~3.5774"...

This is all relevant because I do actually want to be able to use this load in the 7600 pump action... which is designed for the 30-06, which has a COAL of 3.3402"... so it looks like the 175gr SMK is about my max that will likely fit in the 7600 magazines.

I don't plan using the same magazines between two rifles, so technically the Rem700 LA is in no way restricted to the 3.3402" COAL. I do, however, like the velocity the 168gr bullet should have over the 180's, so I am not in any way opposed to using the lighter bullets in the Rem700 LA, even though I could go heavier.
