Probably a good rifle to start with. With getting my AR and all, I decided I needed a 308 rifle. Do all of the sps rifles have bull barrels? i know I need to replace the stock or bed it, but I have no clue how. As for optics, I was thinkin a bushnell 3200 5-15 Tactical in mildot.

Good rifle , buddy of mine has one, shoots under MOA , he upgraded the stock and is very happy. You can upgrade the barrel down the line.

Any one know who has any new ones for sale as I can't find them here and would like another in .308. Remington is not currently cataloging the 20" varmint contour barrel, Hogue stocked, "Tactical" any longer.
I would assume there are some distributors and retailers who may have them. If any one knows where I can find one I'd appreciate it.

Shay, just be advised the varmint version has a 26 inch barrel not a 20 inch barrel.

The 700 SPS varmint is a good choice. As for the stock, shoot the rifle for a little while. Maybe 250 rounds? During that time, look for the stock you want and find a gunsmith that will swap the stocks for you and bed it. You don't need to replace it away and you may find out that you don't want to replace it at all. You may not need that increase in accuracy (for that amount of money).
