I've never been able to get my hands on one so you guys will have to bear with me but what was the methodology/technique for numbering 40X bolts? Were the serials stamped or scribed on the bolt?

Anyone have the story behind it or the process Remington followed when building the 40Xs?

Re: Remington 40X Bolt Questions

I'm still working on getting my hands on the rifle itself. Preferably the whole setup but I would take any of the necessary pieces as long as I started with an action. If were just the bolt I needed, my order with ptg would be placed.

Just doing a little research for now. Seems funny that they'd use a metal scribe to serial the bolt. Wouldn't that potentially create a higher-wear spot on an otherwise smooth bolt race?

Re: Remington 40X Bolt Questions

I've seen them marked with a vibrating engraving tool and also an electric pencil (Arc).
There are still factory bolts out there but they are expensive= $250+. The PTG's are $250 now??
There seem to be more 40X bolts (722) than the 40XB (700)styles out there too.

there is a thread on the CMP forum trying to reunite mis-matched bolt and rifles- None of mine match
