Remington 40x Centerfire Build

I’ve recently purchased a 40x action and can’t decide which direction to go in this build. I have custom rifles so I don’t need to use it like that and I don’t want to have it blueprinted or modified. Other than that I’m open to suggestions and need y’all’s help so I don’t end up with some hideous monstrosity that is a perfect example of what not to do.
I appreciate any help you guys are willing to give me on this.

I was thinking of copying Remington if nothing else. How would you dress it up for the burial? Should I just bury it in a Mcmillan a3-5 or HSprecision pst025 along with a barrel from Krieger or Bartlein in 308 win with a 1:10” twist and cerakote the BA in coyote tan? I’m not very creative or original.

Sure, that sounds good.

Stock, optic, color are your preference really. The most important part(my opinion) is your caliber choice. Do you want to stick with something tried and true, .308, or do you want something different? How many other rifles do you have? Do you reload to take advantage of a different caliber?

If the bolt face is correct for 308 I would base the bulid on it. I would also have the locking lugs lapped correctly to the action.

I have the same in a single shot. (no mag). 40XB Rangemaster. 220 swift. My first varmint gun.

I’ve got over a dozen bolt guns. A couple with defiance actions a howa hcr and the rest Remington 700s. The 308 seemed like the natural choice. Should I let Remington put one of their barrels on it or buy something else and have it put on. Which company makes the barrels for the m40 or m24? Would their barrels be worth the price? Choices can cause problems

I’m a pretty firm believer in pre-fits w/ a barrel nut, but I don’t mind tinkering with things. Most everyone offers something similar to an m24 profile. There aren’t many places that make crappy barrels so it shouldn’t be an issue unless you may shoot any competitions with this gun.

I like the remage setup too. NSS is my go to place for all my remage needs. I like the criterion barrels but nss has some shilen barrels that I’m not familiar with. I’m gonna want everything cerakoted and nss does that too. I’m sure they’ll do a great job but if you know of a another place I’d like to compare prices and turn around times and decide from there.
