I gave up on getting a repeater, so I found a 40XB and worked with Stacey Blankenship at Milehigh Shooting to get it into an AICS.

Not as cool as Surge's Hall actioned repeater that Moon at GAP put together for him, but I like it.

It may look a little odd with the 20MOA badger rail and the 28MOA AI scope mount, but I'm planning ahead. This is my 22lr trainer for the AE MKIII that I'm going to get. I'm looking to get a 6.5CM, but thought I'd get a trainer first for the winter and get the real rifle for next season.

Stacey had Adam do some minor fitting around the safety and some other areas where the chassis bound on the action. He cut down a mag and added some padding to keep the magazine from rattling. The 20MOA Badger rail and 28MOA AI mount are because I'm going to use the the AI mount and Premier on my AE MKIII when I decide on the particulars. Stacey thought this would be a good way to buy once for the real build, and I can put another scope on the trainer- though I REALLY like the Premier.

Wasn't planning on doing it, but I ran out to the Colorado Rifle Club and used the sillhoutte range. Adam had bore sighted it for me and I got it zero'd at 100 pretty quick. There was steel at 150 too, so I hit that with 3.2MILs come up. At 200 I used 6.5MILs At 300, 14.4MILs. And at 390 about 21.3MILS. The wind was really starting to pick up and I think maybe the bullets were starting to tumble? Random shots would land short and the wind was making me use 2-4 mils hold. We are supposed to get 6-10 inches of snow tonight, but it was clear blue skies when I started and got a bit cloundy and windy by the time I was done.

The most fun shooting I've had in years. 150 rounds of Wolf Extra Match and steel and a little wind to make it interesting. Rifle shot great- working with Stacey and Adam really made it painless.

Can't wait to rain down death on some prairie dogs and get some practice in with out costing a fortune, besides the rifle. The most expensive and heavy 22lr I've ever played with.

Re: Remington 40X in AICS

It was our pleasure and she came together nicely, very nice older 40x as well. When we do the AE MKIII, you will be able to swap out the scope from one to the other with ease and enjoy it on both with the same chassis ergonomics shared. Congrats and we greatly appreciate you choosing Mile High.

Re: Remington 40X in AICS

I bought both of my AICS (as well as my Atlas BiPod and monopod) from Mile High and send everyone looking directly to them as well. Great people and what SH should be all about.

My 40XB rides in a chassis from Colorado as well. I didn't cut the mag down though. It will press fit pretty well but I like your idea. Great trainer for the M700 that rides in the "other chassis.

Editted for gratuitous gun porn and Mile High love...

Re: Remington 40X in AICS

Nice looking sticks!

I need a new gunbag, I have two inches of butstock hanging out of my current longest bag. I didn't get the folder since I can get the bolt out with out it- didn' think about how fricken long these are.

What a hoot it is to shoot. So glad out I played hookey from work and went to the range. Snowing like crazy here.

There were some mounting screws in the barrel and MileHigh put screw plugs in them to keep crap from getting in the holes and causing issues. Such attention to detail, all the screw lugs have the screwhead slot parrallel to the bore line. Nice attention to detial and god proper gun Feng-she.

Re: Remington 40X in AICS

The reason I cut down the mag is to fill the void and not make contact with the bottom of his receiver. It just gives it that "finished" look and if he decides to swap the AICS to another M700 setup for some reason, he can simply unbolt, drop in the other M700 Short Action and a new magazine, he is off and running.

Re: Remington 40X in AICS

^^^ I get the reasoning... just couldn't justify cutting one of my mags! LOL!! Most of the time I don't have a mag in at all but I do like the felt idea (I may steal that). Wish you guys were closer, would love to meet you... maybe the next ski trip I'll get the opportunity.

As an FYI... the 40XB fits perfectly into the Eagle HSRC. It actually fit in the Voodoo bag in the picture but the quality was, um... "suspect."

Re: Remington 40X in AICS

I understand, but don't worry, you wouldn't be cutting it, we would LOL, and its just a mag, not a chassis or finger..... Sounds good please do just call us and we will love to have you stop in for a visit.

Re: Remington 40X in AICS

Thanks everyone for the comments. For the life of me I don't know why Remington doesn't make these anymore, or even a non '40X' version but to standard 700 action specs.

Maybe now that it seems like the CMP rifles have dried up, Remington will think about it again.

Between the 40XB and the AICS and goodies I probably spent close to $2k, not counting the scope- and I have no buyers remorse what so ever.

All together a $4k 22LR rifle, good god you guys have fully corrupted me!

It already is starting to pay off. While the 22 in this rifle has no real kick, there is enough recoil to tell when you are getting sloppy with the rifle. In the short time I had with it, I was already experimenting with variables that I'd be reluctanct to do with a full size gun with real expensive ammo in it. I might even take the time to get better at shooting off-hand!

Re: Remington 40X in AICS

I was looking into getting one of the 40x trainers from CMP, any idea how much $ it would take to get it up and running.. My main concern is the bolt, who makes them, how much etc...

Thanks in advance

Pacific Tool and Die makes them... but they are seriously backordered right now with the latest influx of CMP actions.

ColdDead... you'll find yourself trying all sorts of different holds on the rifle. Its amazing how much even a heavy ass 40XB will jump depending on pressure and angle of pressure. You'll get to a point where you'll know the rifle jumped a bit on recoil left, right or higher than normal and your shots WILL reflect thet. I don't think you every will have buyers remorse! They are WAY too much fun!! Beautiful piece!

Re: Remington 40X in AICS

ColdDead,

Great looking rig. You won't be disaapointed in the peformance. I have a couple of 40XB's and they all shoot great, but I really have a hard time feeding them onesy's. No patience I guess.

I am holding on to mine waiting for someone's "repeater" conversions to actually come into existence. Mike at Skunkworks recently stated he should be up and runnnig with his after the first of the year. Mike has been very straight up and I expect that is when it will happen.

When we get a repeater conversion on the 40XB's, then I will have to make a decision on Annie's, 52B's or 40XB'x. Tough job, but somebody's got to do it.

Good luck with the new rig.

Re: Remington 40X in AICS

Man, I don't know that I could bring myself to spend $4K on a rimfire based on a Remington action, but that build came together nicely.

I love my 40X. It competes very well against the likes of Anschutz 54s, Hall and Turbo. Close enough that the shooter makes more of the difference and in rimfire, that's saying something.

Re: Remington 40X in AICS

Half of that is scope that will go on the real rifle. I'm looking for a good FFP scope to replicate the Premier. Lot's of chioces in lower end FFPs and I'm never going to drag this one thru the brush or have it deal with real recoil.

But if you want to do the math, 308 match ammo is at least $1/rnd and 22lr match ammo is about 1/10 the price. Shoot a 2500 rounds out of this gun and it has 'paid for itself'. Not really true, but if I can get practice in at the local ranges at 100 yards a couple of times a month versus the 3 hr round trip to the big range- that is worth something. The other is that I could probably sell the rifle or part it out for what I have into it will little loss.

Re: Remington 40X in AICS

Man Stacy is working on my stick right now and this makes me just more anxious lol. I can't wait to get it in my hands. That's an awesome trainer, I bet it is a blast to shoot.
