Hello, I picked up a remmy 511 about a year ago for 100$ its in really good shape besides a few normal wear marks in the stock, and it had a new butt plate installed but it was never ground to fit and still over sized from the stock. Up until now the rifle has just sat in the safe while I was finishing up other projects but now I'm thinking about D&T the receiver and installing a scope.

My question is has any one had any experience with the 511 or other rifles in this series, how well do they perform? Has anyone re barreled one? Any chance of aftermarket stocks? Were any of these converted into "match guns" back in the day?

Any advise is appreciated

Thanks guys!

The 511 was actually my first gun and it seemed pretty accurate with just the iron sight but that gun is just a safe queen now. But when I picked up the other one is when the wheels started turning! I was planning on making a base for it, bedding it, trigger, and possibly re barreling it, Im new to the field of gunsmithing graduated from CST and have been working as a smith full time the last three years and I figured this could make a fun project for me, and it would be kind of cool to have a super accurate version of my first gun!

I have been looking at some magazines do the 15rnd mags feed good or is there issues with them?

Like you I also use my guns cant wait to get some holes drilled in it and get out to start using it!

Great plinker or field gun but nothing worth sinking money into. Never heard of anyone rebarreling one as I believe they are pressed and pinned and the to do it would cost way more than its worth. Enjoy her for what she is :).

One thing you can do to the trigger that's fairly easy and can make a world of difference:
The trigger is shaped much like a '7', and at the top rear there's a vertical blind hole that contains the trigger spring and plunger. If you can find or make a lighter spring, try that. Did that one one a couple of years back, and the difference from the original pull is amazing.

I have a mint '47 511 that I am more than happy with. Was my grandfather's, I nailed a lot of squirrels with it when I was younger. Does OK on paper but I haven't got a 100 yard range to wring it out on at the moment. I'd say shoot it and see how you like it. When I get home tomorrow night I'll try to remember to look at the scope mount for you.
