remington 513-t match master

Re: remington 513-t match master

Had one, 27" heavy barrel, Redfield aperture sights, Model 513-T stamped US Property, in the mid 1990's. It was very accurate, and was looking to have the barrel cut to 20" to enhance portability. But when I was offered double what I paid for it, in it's original condition, I let it go. There are days I wish I had it back.

Love both of mine have killed many turkeys with the scoped one. The un-scoped one is "as issued". +1 for a crappy trigger but it makes you concentrate

Re: remington 513-t match master

well a buddy of mine just came over and brought some bullets. i shot 50 rounds out of it and am really impressed.

this one is stamped us property(receiver, and barrel) with im guessing a 27 inch barrel. as far as the trigger goes, i think this one has been worked on because the trigger is smooth as glass, and breaks like my morals after a case and a half of shiner bock.

all in all i really like this thing

Re: remington 513-t match master

Do not have one, but have shot a few. They tend to shoot most ammo pretty well and if you take the time to find the ammo it really likes, they shoot very well.

The older "middle-of-the-line" .22's like the Remington 500's and Winchester 75's and 69's will shoot right along with the 40X's and 52's if fed the right ammo.

Did it come with sights or scope? The last one I saw was complete with Redfield sights (front and rear), and a Lyman Junior Targetspot scope in the wood case.

Just picked up my first 513-T couple weeks back, looking forward to getting the kinks out, do not think it has been shot in a while. Will try feeding it different types of ammo, see what it likes. No scope, shooting iron sights. Good luck with yours.

I have one. Here is a picture with a Ken Vianni scope mount. You can use it with the original peep sights or a scope. Rifle shoots better than me. The shot groups are bulk winchester, and sights mounted on the Ken Vianni scope bring POI 24.5 MOA above POA.

Re: remington 513-t match master

The first organized rifle match I shot in I used a 513-T in 1964. It was quite an experience shooting a "real" target rifle. It is one of the few left on my, to get" list.

Enjoy yourself and make lots of tight groups.

Re: remington 513-t match master

I just cleaned the carpet in my basement which meant getting all of the rifles out of the gun locker and putting them all in another room for awhile. I all but forgot about my Matchmaster in the back of the gun locker and have not shot it in well over a year maybe even a few. Now that I found it and now that I've read your question, I'll have to go out and shoot it later today. As I recall though it is one of the more accurate .22 rifles I have ever fired. I do not recall if the trigger is smooth or a tough nut but I'll let you know.

All the best,

Re: remington 513-t match master

I took it to the range this afternoon as planned. I shot it using CCI Blazer, CCI Mini Mag, Federal American Eagle, Federal Champion (decades old ammo), and Remington Thunderbolt. Not any expensive target type ammo, just run of the mill ammo. I used NRA 50 ft. rifle targets and set them up at 50 feet. I achieved group sizes from 14/16" down to 6/16" firing 5 shots at each bull's eye. I fired each brand of ammo consistently to the left a bit until I adjusted the sights. I had not fired this for at least a year, maybe as many as three, and there is a good chance the sights were knocked out of wack when I cleaned the rifle or rearranged the gun locker. Anyway, it fired pretty consistent groups. I am sure it would have done better in someone else's hands but I did okay. When I have time to sight it in at 25 yards, I will do so.

If you want to see the targets, visit my blog at:

By the way, as for the trigger, it broke crisply. I figure maybe at 4 pounds but that is a guess at best.

All the best,

Re: remington 513-t match master

I have found that my matchmaster loves the aguila rifle match shoots 10 round shots under one inch at 50 yds with my iron sights. The brick of ammo can be bought under $30 from cheaper than dirt. Check it out.

Re: remington 513-t match master

I have a 513T now which is my second one. They shoot very well and will stay with the Mossberg training rifles in accuracy. The 513T will not shoot with the H&R M12.

Our friend Adam shot a 475 out of 500 with a 513T at a 200 yard NRA match. I was a few feet away on the firing line so I know it's true. His sight was slightly modified to keep elevation of the rear sight to a minimum at 200 yards. Other than that, the rifle is stock.

The only problem I've had is with magazines. It's either heaven or Hell. Some mags feed properly and some don't. The mags from Brownells were best. Magazine feed issues were the reason I sold my first rifle.

Re: remington 513-t match master

Very soft spot in my heart for the 513-T as the first rifle that I really learned how to shoot with. High school ROTC over 40-years ago, the Winchester 52-D's were far to heavy for my fly-weight stature, but the 513-T was just right for a couple of years until I grew into the 52. Bought two of the 513's when CMP was selling them a few years ago, didn't even consider getting one of the 52's. Yes the 52-D is a lot more rifle, and probably should have gotten at least one while the getting was good, but never missed those rifles like I missed the little Remington.

Re: remington 513-t match master

Guys,
I just found a 513T at my local funstore, and found this thread here on the 'hide while researching. Its got a grooved reciever, the original sights(Redfield), a target sling, and a old Weaver 4x mounted on it( which I will take off). Metal is 95%. Stock looks great, but appears to be refinished( I'll use this rifle to shoot, not collect).

Does $650 sound out of line? TIA

Re: remington 513-t match master

$650 seems a little high to me even for one complete with the sights and in the condition you describe. Plus, you are paying for the scope/rings that you already said you won't be using.

If you really want one, I'd take a look at the ones on GunBroker, GunsAmerica, etc. for around $100 or more less expensive than the one local. Even if you have to buy/ship/pay transfer costs, you are likely to come out ahead of the $650 deal. That, or get a bunch of print-outs from similar rifles for sale for less and see if your local shop will deal on the price. I wouldn't personally go higher than $550 or so unless you just HAVE TO HAVE IT. Been there...done that!
