My great uncles rifle. First rifle my Dad shot when he was around 10 to 12. He'll be 82 in June. Dad had refinished stock when he got it from his cousin. Actually has an extra barrel that was never installed. No barrel pin hiles drilled yet. This was earlier model with no
Dovetail, no government markings. Stock was redone
and it's never leaving so I could care less about resale.
I want to shoot it. With a scope because my eyes just aren't what they use to be.

Nobody makes a decent scope base so...........

I tore rifle apart and drilled and tapped receiver 6-48

Made a 25 MOA incline scope base out of steel picatinny base stock. Got it blued today. Matches up nicely.

Got the action back together. Trigger was horrible. Got it down to a meh 3 and 1/4
Lbs. That's bout all I could get. Never messed with one that old.

Getting an old classic back in action is a noble cause. These really shoot well if you can get past the trigger. I am not a trigger snob and do pretty well with my 521-T another economy repeater Remington put out. better it be shot than collect dust.

I took out the wood screw out of the front of the rail replaced with a swivel stud with the bigger wood screw type threads. Works perfect. You may want to track down a cheek riser though.

Put a side focus 10x SS (What I had laying around)
And tried some groups at 50 and 100. Sk LR did ok. Trigger is definitely an issue but I do love the old rifle.

Your bolt handle looks like its crooked. Bent or clocked forward a smidge....

I really think this thing would just hammer if I could get the trigger sweetened up a bit. It is showing promise. Sk long range match at 100

3 to 5 winds, Prednisone (in me, not rifle) meh trigger. Last group was upper left. Felt good about all shots. Today it feels like its breaking around 4 lbs. I need to get better at old rifle trigger jobs....
