Hey guys, I have another one for the "minds" of the forum.

A local store has a Remington 513T for $349. I have been doing some looking around the web and found that they original came with a redfield sight set, which this rifle does have, and a 6 shot detachable mag. The stores usually take the mags out of the rifles so they don't get stollen or lost, so not sure if the rifle has the mag or not.

The stock on the rifle is in dire need of a refinishing, the barrel has a large ding at the 6 o'clock on the muzzle. The ding doesn't go into the crown, but you can really feel the mushrooming of the metal and see the peel of metal. There is quite a bit of barrel pitting, though was unable to see down the bore. The bolt looked to be ok, no more ware than normal for an older rifle. It does have the front sling mount, and nothing more. If you want to say the sights have a nice "petina" on them or just a bunch of gunk on them.

I have been looking at they seem to be going for around $150-$500 depending on the shape and condition of everything. I am planning on stopping by again later today and getting some more pictures of the rifle ( to upload here ) and find out a few things about the rifle.

So with that in mind, what do you guys think would be a fair price for the rifle? As much as I would love to get a Winchester 52 with match sights, this may be the first step in that direction.

Re: Remington 513T

Was planning on shooting it with the peep sights, but if I could get a few bucks back for those sights I would go for that as well. The main thing is that the rear sight isn't there, the mount is there along with the adjusters but the flat disk is missing.

It looks like someone tried to do a home blue over the rust on the barrel, and then tried to sand some of it off. When they attempted to sand the rust off they took all of the finish off and have bare metal showing.

There is no extras with the rifle, just the mag.

When talking to the sales guy, I mentioned that the rifle was in fair condition due to the problems, and he still was stuck on sticking with the $350 price. When mentioned that they probably paid around $100-150 for the trade in and that they were trying to make $200 on the sale a few people perked up and started to question a few things.

But get this the answer that I got as to why the price was high......."the government is going to be taking away all of these weapons real soon. So you better buy them now before you can't anymore" That is when I turned around and left, and made sure that they knew I wasn't ever going to do business with them. Had them put back my $500 worth of stuff as well.

Re: Remington 513T

First, gun shops are primed up to sell in the "panic" mode. Now is the time to stay away from dealers.

Second, it does not sound like it is worth anything even close to a 100 dollar rifle. That is not fair condition, that is nra "shit condition" category and I doubt they paid even 50 bucks for it.

513T's are very nice for the money if you can find a clean one and they seem to come up all the time.

IMO, dont buy this one and never panic buy anything. And good for you for walking away from his bs on the other sales too.

Merry Christmas,
DS

Re: Remington 513T

damn DFOOSKING you have some interesting stuff.

like you said, they aren't really bringing in a pretty penny even in excellent shape.

a few years ago, just as i got bit by the rimfire bug bad, the local "toy store" had a few of these, a 541, and a 580 all for a song and a dance (under 100.00 each, and in good condition).

as i didn't know what i had in my hands for a low price at that time, i didn't buy them. anymore when i have a gut feeling about something that i haven't learned along the way, i plunk cash down to hold them until i get more info.

the panic thing - we are our worst enemy, and the recent rush on stuff is adding to the snowball....and it's been 4-5 years of the public becoming more sheep like since the last panic driven rush on stuff. though recent events are indeed tragic, there's no reason for us to act like psychos gobbling up semi auto and hi cap mags, perception is reality. it's starting to trickle over to pump and bolt actions now too.

i'd be more afraid of a guy that can effeciently reload 3 10 rnd mags and has spent the time and practice to know his firearm to do so than a guy that knows nothing and has a 30 rounder.

the government probably will take guns away someday, but that's only because we allow them to in one way or another. if we allow a person to sue for millions for spilling coffee on themselves, folks on welfare can get free cellphones, and you can't light up a smoke outdoors (even if you are by yourself or with other smokers), there's a problem. guns may not be the next thing, but it's practically a sure bet for the future if the sheep keep flocking.

'nuff of the soapbox....

by your description, seems like it's been around the block and already bubba'd up a bit. probably not worth more than 100.00 - 125.00, and that's probably the very maximum.

Re: Remington 513T

A rifle in the condition you described is probably worth $300 just in parts, unless the receiver is grooved, then it's worth a little more.

I sold two 513-T's at our local gun show last weekend, a decent one complete with sights and an original mag for $450, the other one I sold was really nice and complete, it sold for $550.

Re: Remington 513T

Yeah I am over on rimfirecentral under the same name as here.

I am going to do some checking and see if I can't find people that would want the sights and then just get a nice scope for it.

Thanks for the help again guys.
