Remington 597 17HMR recall

Re: Remington 597 17HMR recall

Yeah I believe mine is worth more in the safe. This is an old topic. Probably over a year old. But anyways there was no way I was going to give mine back. Even though I bought it for 200 from a buddy. I still use mine. Even though I shouldn't.

Re: Remington 597 17HMR recall

From what I remember the problem lies in the ammo. Because it works in bolt guns I believe. But Yes this did piss off a ton of people. Why not give us a full refund, ya know???

Re: Remington 597 17HMR recall

as i don't have a.17, i didn't followthis closer but i noticed in that link that it's $200 for a synthetic stocked rifle and $250 for a laminate -----toward the purchase of another remington rifle.

it also says remington .17 ammo..
so the other ammo manufacturers are ok to use? snooping around the hornady, cci, and other manufacturer's sites, they are stating that it depends on the manufacturer of the firearm if they deem that their firearm is unsafe with use of .17 ammo.

of course remington stated only remington ammo, and not the others.
at least the safety works!

The problem is both the ammo and the gun. The 597 17 HMR bolt is made of a very strong, but brittle metal. When the gasses heat up from lots of semi-auto fire, it opens cracks in the bolt (not CRACKS cracks) and if a case were to explode, those gasses penetrate the hot bolt and VERY bad things happen.

Misery loves company. I have the laminated stock...good looker, great shooter. I was a little pissed about the $250 buyback. I had great times with that little gun and have refused to send it back. Instead of making us eat $125 bucks if we pick another Remington, I wish they would make us a new bolt.
