I am looking for a new 223 and have been learning about the 5-R rifle from Remington. Is this worth the up cost over the other factory varmint rifles(rem 700 vlss or savage 12 btcss)? Is 5-R rifleing that much better? I will be shooting this out to 600yds.

go with a savage model 12 LRPV .223 so you can get a better rate of twist barrel

Ok, I went and looked at the model 12 LRPV. Two twist rates available: 1:7 or 1:9. 1:7 only in single shot. 1:9 in all multishot model 12s except the 12 VLP. The 12 VLP I could get 1:7 but doesn't have the good stock on it. I will be getting a multishot gun so..... 1:9 LRPV or 1:7 VLP?????

Two options here.
First, call savages custom shop and have them put a 1:7 vlp barrel on a LRPV action. Im about 99% sure theyl do it without any problems or outrageous prices.
Second, buy a stocked LRPV action from northlander on savage shooters for 755 plus shipping, and then buy a match 223 barrel in the twist you desire for about 290. Have it installed or do it yourself and youl have a gun that will shoot as good as you will most likely.
One other thing, unless you dont want wood the VLP stock is very nice.
