I just put one in jail this morning, but it was the 20" threaded in .308

Very nice rifle, though sometimes over rated when compared to less expensive offerings such as Remington's SPS Tactical. The 5R Mil Spec comes with a stainless action and barrel and a better stock. They are ususally about 2X more expensive than the SPS Tactical model. The LTRs are probably in the same price range but I'm not sure of their availability.

I picked mine up barely used and for a very good price. It is a very good and accurate rifle but in truth, I haven't really taken it out for shooting groups beyond zeroing prior to shooting steel at distance. There have been a good number of threads on this model, here and elsewhere over the years

I see you are from kalifornia just 2 hours west of me.. You would be in shock what a 20" barrel can do..

Yea bro, born and raised. My brother lives down the street from Dodgers stadium. Works on commercial sets in Hollywood. Can't wait to see what this beauty can do!

Nice rifle.. Really.. If the sps is in question? Had both and they did great given the upgrades needed for the sps. 5r? Just needed a cheek piece and a jewel trigger 3lbs, proper inch pounds, good scope and base, rings (nightforce).. Done!

Good to know. Thanks for the post I appreciate it a lot! I can't wait to start shooting it.

I couldn't agree more bro. I unlike others like the way the stock feels and have no means on upgrading the stock so it will work for me. And I am a stainless kind of guy, and the rifling was really appealing!

He must live in echo park area (arts district). What are your choices in scope, base, rings ammo etc.

Lol, yeah he does live near Echo park. He runs that park on a regular. I'm leaning towards Vortex, SWFA or Nightforce(if I can save enough for perfection) for scopes. As for base and rings, eigther waren tactical, Larue or vortex. Ammo, More than likely 168 and 175 SMK's all day.

NightForce all the way if you can.. The 3.5X22X56 npr2 or mil dot or the 5.5 both are amazing.. NightForce 20moa base and Meduim rings.. The scope will have 1/8 inch clearance above the barrel.. One thing I have learned is, hurt for the scope once. Go quality Bro, you will never look back..

Yea that's what I keep hearing bro. But where I live there isn't to many ranges I would be able to actually use all that glass.

Now it comes with zero stop and illuminated. 1,600 or so.. I got the most simple one 4 years ago for 1,680 shipped (5.5X22X56 NPR2). I love it!! for the price? You cant go wrong. From My days behind a 308 I tried allot of scopes, this was it for me.. I dont shoot 308 anymore but I still have the scope..

For glass don't overlook the for sale section here for the vendors selling glass at some reasonable prices.

There is some great value out there offered by Vortex, Bushnell, Burris, Sightron and others at a price plateau below the NF, USO level that may very well suit your needs. The Premier and March level is out of my reach until I become successful or win the power ball! :D

I have a couple of the Vortex Viper PSTs and am very pleased with them. Below then are a mix of Nikons, Burris, Sightron, Leupolds and even a couple Simmons on the 22s!

If this is your only scoped rifle, then by all means, high end glass becomes less painful to consider.

Hi guys, new to forum and a great thread to jump in. Long-time hunting and shooting enthusiast. Recently, my son who is 24 and gettings is Master's in mechanical engineering, and I have been spending some great time handgunning. For whatever reason I never really introduced him to guns. I had custody of him since he was a year-old and had plenty of chances but a stepmom was anti guns and didn't want to introduce her son to the sport. Got rid of that problem awhile ago:cool:. So I picked this up as a platform for my son and I to start in the art/science of precision shooting. Their are advantages to living in certain parts of the country and have sections and sections of land to shoot. Just wanted to say hello and I will keep the story updated on another thread.

a new use for a guitar stand.....

Well put bro. Thank you very much. As for scoped firearms, this is definitely my first. I'm leaning more towards the middle end scopes like vortex. I heard nothing but great things about that company!

I just bought a Remington 700 5R milspec. I wanna order a McMillan A5 stock on stockysstocks.com. Which one fits? Is it the M24 milspec? Sendero? Help please...

The 5R Milspec has the Varmint Barrel Profile. So as long as the stock is for a Vermint Barrel you'll be good to go. Any stock from Manners/McMillan/B&C/HS will work as long as you get the Tactical Models. The hunting models might not have enough barrel channel.
