I have a remington 788 and am having an issue with scope mounting. I purchased 2 piece weaver bases for it and the rear base does not fit the receiver very well - there is a little light between the base and receiver when tightened. I know I saw a post on this a couple months ago but could not find it. Is this something that your average gunsmith could remedy? Any input would be appreciated.

I would certainly take it to a gunsmith, they should be able to do any modifying if needed, or confirm that there could be a sizing problem with the base itself. To confirm, you do have bases model 76 and 75?

Yes they are the 76 and 75. The rear base is too concave for the receiver. Am thinking about trying a different base such as the EGW?
