I have a remington 700 aac-sd (like every other guy with a question I know but stay with me here). I have a manners t4 with the mini chassis. When the action is in the stock the barrel isn't center with the barrel channel. It is center when installed in a B&C stock. When I put another barreled action into both stocks the results are the same. The barrel is canted to the left of the barrel channel, still free floated it seems but it's pretty tight on the left side. I've searched and read a ton of threads mostly about bedding/skim bedding because I assumed that would be an easy solution to center the action and barrel. When you look at the wear marks on the under side of the action the right side (ejection port side) the line from the contact with the bedding block runs the length of the action but on the left side it's mainly contacting near the recoil lung and not again until at the tang. The wear marks arent equal distance from the front action screw hole. There is no interference with the trigger or trigger pins. The bolt release rubbed against the block but I took care of that and did not fix the issue. A layer of painters tape under the left side of the action only one inch long starting at the recoil lug centers the action and barrel as it should set. My next step is either going to be skim bedding the action to the bedding block or using spotting compound and remove material until the action and bedding block are mating up properly. Is there anything else I should check before I venture down this road and if not would adding the bedding or removing material be the better solution? Thanks in advance.
