+1 I just got my first tactical/precision rifle: Rem700 SPS Tactical .308 20" 1:10 AAC-SD. Same question as above, AND "Did you break in the barrel to get it to shoot tight?"

The one I have is no longer stock, having replaced the following; Stock, trigger and firing pin assembly. With that said it will consistently group 5 under .75 moa all the time and I will occasionally get freaks in the .3's
At distance:
700 yards 175smk@2550fps handload. Held .5 mil wind. 5 shots 8" spread counting the one I pulled low, 4 were less than 5". Not bad for a factory Remington Tactical and 10x nikon... (can of chew for reference
)

No just swapped the stock (after finding it was not free floated when using a bipod) and started shooting it. I have cleaned the bore 3 times to date (one of those cleanings was due to a range trip during a down pour, not because it needed it for accuracy sake) and I have somewhere around 1200 rounds it through now.
It’s a great little rifle, and brought me this guy home from Montana
Shot was ~150 yards, I aimed for the spine and hit where I aimed.
How it looks now
It wears a B&C light tactical stock (That I skim bedded), timney trigger and a dark earth leupold MK4 3.5-10x40mm M2 in a DNZ 20 MOA mount. It comes in right at 10.5 pounds per my scale and very well balanced.

I have been very pleased with this stock and I am considering changing many of my rifles over to it. The fit is perfect for me and it feels like a higher quality stock compared to my HS PSS take off. The shell sounds thicker than the HS. The grip angle is much more to my liking, not quite as nice as my Manners T4 or McMillan A5 but close enough for me to still achieve proper trigger finger placement and angle yet maintain a grip on the stock, unlike the HS or many hunting style stocks. And the price is right!

My sps Tac with a BC a3 shoots pretty good. I have stacked 4rds in the same hole with a 155amax load but my goto load is 175smk and it shoots under .75moa.

Mine out of box was Acc-sd mine was 1/2 inch with no bipod bag at the bottom metal with bipod crap 2-3 inch becouse the stock is crap, I strengthength the forearm with marietex gray I did a posting of the prossess. Nail driving at 100, 200 think I was .60-.80 at 300 I'm 2.5 that's after load development and small trigger ajust with the x-mark trigger at 300 before development at 300 I was all over place but was with in 4 inches though so I say grate start to a good thing

How did you guys break in? Or did you not break in? I have been doing a lot of research on "breaking in a barrel" and it is all inconclusive... Some experts for, some experts against, and even more say "it depends" which isn't all that helpful for me...

this rifle was used when i bought it but , when i did the break in on my 700p ,, i simply cleaned after every shot for the first 50 rds then cleaned after every 5 shots for the next 50 then after every 10 for the next 50
and called it good, some people buy lapping rounds ,, never used them and to me seams like your just wearing out your brl for no reason ,, any how up to you

My SPSS Tactical, H-S PSV096 stock, Jewell trigger, TPS rings & 20MOA base, generally shoots under MOA out to 300yds.

also you can sand the stock to fit you a little bit, i wouldn't recommend too much of a change, but i did on my m40 to kinda fit my hand better you cant do that with too many stocks

After being a member of the 'Hide for about a month or so and reading as many threads as I possibly can... I still keep comin' back to the Rem 700 SPS Tactical. I can't find any other rifle that's giving me the best bang for the buck in the price range that I wanna spend.

There is a sticky on this forum that covers it well. Just shoot it, cleaning every 400 or when accuracy starts to suffer. The most cleaning mine gets it from the one pass I do with a bore snake just before shooting to clean out the oil I put in there to keep it from rusting between shooting.
I love mine, I have gotten just under MOA at 100yrds with Remington CoreLokt ammo, a 3-9x40 Leupold rifleman, and the houge stock. Pretty well for the lousy set-up, and I am not that good of a shot yet. Most groups come in around 1.25". I think ammo and the shooter is to blame however.

I shoot the 20" short tac 1:12 twist. B&C A3 stock timmney 40X trigger, SS 10x42HD. Stock is not skim bedded. Load is Lapua brass, CI BR2 primers, 168SMK HPBT, shoots .5MOA. I am going to try Winchester brass soon. Lapua is a bit pricey for me. I am thinking about getting skimbedded. I don't see it could hurt.

I got mine because it was in the right price point an allowed me to start customizing right away. While the fit an finish isn't fantastic, the rifle shoots pretty well and that's what I wanted. My goal was to keep very little other than the barrel and action "as shipped" from the factory so I could set it up just like I wanted. So far I've replaced the following:
-stock now an hs precision pst025 (vertical grip with adj. lop and cheek piece)
-firing pin and spring
-bolt knob Phoenix custom rifles marksman knob
-trigger timney 510 on order.
About the only thing left to do with this is add some bottom metal for a dbm, buy a suppressor and shoot enough so I have to get a new barrel.
