How do you guys remove rattle can paint from optics and mounts?

Wipe it with acetone or rubbing alcohol. Depends on how good the guy painting was, you may have to really put some elbow grease in there. If the surface was prepped properly and a good primer was used, this will be the case.

Citristrip gel to start out with to get the bulk of it off the optic and acetone with q tips for detailed removal.

I use Krud Kutter, Graffiti Remover. It's pretty mild stuff but does a good job. It won't hurt glass or coatings, but sometimes you have to break the surface of the paint so it can soak in. I use a bronze bristle brush for this.

I dont tape anything off. I just spray it on.
