I'm trying to understand that. Renting has its shitty parts, but home ownership is always something. Leaking pipes, AC goes out, new roofs, painting, mowing, broken mowers, snow removal, broken frig, etc, etc.

I have done both. I prefer and enjoy owning a home for freedom. Renting though, is stress free. I never lost an eye of sleep when bad weather rolled in, or the AC going out on 104 degree day.

Setting the whole financial aspect of renting vs home ownership aside. If you rented a home, that has got to be the best of both worlds. No stress of things going bad, and still have freedom to do the things you want. Maybe somehow the thought of throwing money away on renting eats at the soul? The longest I ever rented was a year, so maybe I'm missing something????

Home/land ownership is a key to building generational wealth; has several perks over renting but as mentioned above - holy fuck is it work- mowing , landscaping, roofs to fix -sink hole in driveway, a poorly maintained ditch system on the court road that turns your front yard into a duck pound , 9000 hours of mowing in 12 years .

For renting, I know for me the stress of it was being keenly aware you're always in someone else's space. It was never mine, never would be, and I was very limited in what I could do to make things more to my liking. And anything that I did want to do, needed approval and was a constant back and forth, so I ended up doing nothing and waiting it out.

Plus coming home after a long day at work, only to find my landlord there trimming the bushes or otherwise milling about was straight up infuriating and sent my blood pressure to the moon.

I recently bought my own place, and like most things, wish I'd have done it sooner. Especially since I've had the means for it. But, learn as you go I guess.

Renters know that they are missing out on all this and feel the stress because they know their rent payment is just making their landlord richer.

What they refuse to acknowledge is they want everything now, without working for it.

They drive expensive cars. They go on expensive vacations. They eat out or order in constantly. And a shit ton of them have thousands of dollars worth of shitty tattoos all over their bodies. It's rare they aren't in high dollar debt, and even rarer they have money in savings.


If they are looking for sympathy, they can find it in the dictionary between shit and syphilis.

I rented a house once when I was 18, bought a brand new mobile home, rented a lot for about 2 years before buying my 1st house and land. Rented retail space for a few years, bought a 10K²' building at 35. Gave it all away to ex-wife. Bought my current land (6 acres) in '15 paid it off in 18 months. Never understood why anyone would not want to own. Like who leases a personal car??

Long story but nothing was anywhere close to reaching a conclusion, after 9 months. The law, 2 different lawyers, ect. So went a different route and they were out in less than 3 days. At some point when the law is fucking you an protecting trash, you say fuck the law, this shit ends now. Even their neighbors said thanks for getting them out.
The,... LAW,... is what prolonged, and protected them, until I kicked it to the curb. Who in the long run profited from it, guess? If you guessed Lawyers, you're correct.

There is a video on YouTube about divorce. A couple went to a lawyer and said we want a divorce, divide everything 50/50, no kids. Lawyer says, can’t do it, one of you will have to hire another attorney. Two years and 30k later they were divorced.

I did my own. Got a copy of an approved dissolution and basically changed the names. The clerks at the courthouse were as helpful as a case of herpes, but I was divorced in six months at a cost of less than 500 bucks.

This is why I have kept my rents below market rates for over a decade. I have really, really, really good long term tenants and want them to stay in my houses!

I let them paint the interior if they want. I’ve made upgrades for them over the years with updated appliances (benefits me anyways so why not), and other things.

They’ve paid the houses off for me plus some over the years, and I got the increase in equity too. Damn, I’m going to miss them when their kids graduate high school and they finally move on!

I could have bought a nicer newer house for 2-3 times what I paid for mine... But I bought this one. It needed some work. And the work is ongoing. But I paid the note off in a little over half the time on the note.

Sure, part of my circumstance was luck. But it sure seems like luck finds people who make good decisions in the first place.

At the end of the day, boomers consumed more than they produced. That's a fact. Period. End of story. There's nothing to argue or debate about here. The boomers squandered their inheritance at the expense of future generations and their children and grandchildren are doing the same. My generation included.

Produce more than you consume, give a little back and raise your kids to do the same. That's progress. It's not fucking rocket science.
