Replacement for my A3G

I want to replace my FN A3G with another rifle. Requirements: .308 , box mag feed , folding stock. I will be using it for short range sniping as well as long range competition. Would also need to be able to have night vision and a suppressor at a later date. I love my FN but it doesn't have and they don't offer a magazine system for it.

Doesn't have what? Also CDI and FN make DBM for the SPR series.

You must have not looked real hard, their bottom metal is awesome the only downfall is the proprietary mags. A competent gun smith or CDI can install CDI bottom metal and you can run AI mags in it also. Don't give up on a great rifle.

Yes but they,FN, tell you its not for the hinged floor plate on the A3G. That's the reason the FN won't work.

Mcree chassis might cover all your criteria as long as you like the feel of it.

I just looked at CDI web page and I will give them a call tomorrow and see if they can help. I really dont wont to give up this rifle but I also dont wont to butcher it to make something work.

Ptg offers a drop in that uses ai mk1 mags. I picked up one for my a3g, it didn't quite drop in though. On a regular spr it would have, but since the a3g has a bedded bdl floorplate it was kinda tight. I ended up slightly relieving some metal off of the ptg. It now fits like a glove, has a rugged trigger guard and a beefy skirt to protect the mag. Mags are cheaper then aics mags, only 5 rds, and have room for long coal. I competent smith could fit it, thread the barrel, and mount a nv bridge on the stock. If u like the fn platform then the next best option is the model that they make with their tbm and threaded barrel. Still have to get a nv bridge installed or just run a clip on. I think mcree makes a chassis for spr's, that gets u a folder, box mag, and ready for nv bridge. U would have to still get the action milled to take aics mags and threaded for suppresor.

The alteration is very minor, and shouldn't hold you back. The SPR actions are great.

I have an SPR with CDI bottom metal installed. They don't take much off of the action itself. I'll see if I can get pictures when I get home if you're interested.

My opinion is don't screw with the A3G by adding DBM and getting it threaded. The A3G rifles are really neat, but they are what they are. Don't make it into something it's not.

Especially when you can just buy the FN SPR A5M:

20" or 24" barrel - fluted and threaded, suppressor ready
FN TBM box mag system

The A3G is 1-12 also.

My A3G never gives me any problems with 175 SMKs.

All of the 308 FN SPRs are 1:12, which is quite adequate for anything a 308 oughtta shoot - unless we're talking ultra heavy subsonics.

Accuracy differences between the A3G vs. other models is pretty minor. I think many of the A3Gs honestly shoot 3 shot groups in the 2s and 3s. Meanwhile the "1 moa guarantee" SPR models usually shoot in the 5s. Sending your non-A3G model out for professional bedding would likely make up the difference.

As promised here are some pictures of the machining that needs to be done on the inside of the action in order to make the SPR work with AICS magazines. Sorry for the relatively poor quality, my only camera is my phone. I had Mike at Tactical Coordination install the bottom metal when I ordered the SPR through them initially.

Me too. CDI did mine, and it's clean and well executed. I had CDI notch the feed ramp to work with Alpha Type 2 magazines as well.
