Had the chance to shoot today with some new ammunition, both the 260 and 308 varities, from SWAmmunition . All shots were at 100 yards.
Caveats abound, but first and foremost I'm not a pro and you are soon to see evidence thereof. Nonetheless, I think this as well as the other posts clearly show that this ammunition bears strong consideration as it appears to perform very well at impressive pricing.
This morning, I shot the 308 ammo 175 gn bullet in Winchester brass with small rifle primers through a 22 inch 1/11.27 twist gap worked rifle with a surefire break. It was 42 degrees with a 5-10 mile wind 1/2 value. I used a bipod without a rear bag(forgot that too). Ammo functioned well and there were no pressure signs. As numerous others have posted similar results, here's another target.
Took out my gas gun, a 260 24 inch barrel 1/8.5 twist to try some of the 260 ammo with 139 scenars in remington brass. Frankly, I'm quite rusty operatoring an ar. I generally threw at least one shot per 5 round group. While the following group is reflective of my lack of skill, I have no doubt a skilled operator could make this ammo shine as I'd generally stack three or four and then I'd mangle the follow through on one.
Moved on the the 260 bolt gun when i came back to the range this afternoon. It's a Wm Roscoe built 1/8 rock barrel on a surgeon action. Ammo fed perfectly. The rounds shot exceptionally well. One minimal, and I mean minimal, flat primer was noted on one round. I was shooting at the top and bottom corner of the target sheet for orientation as others had shot up my target from the morning. Must apologize as the one of the groups has only four rounds(ran out of ammo-yes it was that kind of a day)and clearly dropped a shot on the five round group.
Next step is to take the ammo out and stretch it's legs a bit. Hope to do that shortly. Updates to follow. I will be buying more of this ammunition when available.
