The September Topstraps Longrange Rimfire Match is over and I got to witness a lot of really great shooting. Conditions were really good overall with no rain and very little wind.

The scores keep going up as the shooters skills keep improving and their search for that elusive "best" ammo their gun likes continues. I do limit my ammo costs to no more than $8.00/50 and no benchrest type equipment.

I added three more names to my Ceiling of Fame with them hitting all 10 of the plates at 197 in a row with no misses. They start at 10 inch and progressively go down 1 inch at a time to finally end at 1 inch. There is luck involved in hitting the last couple due to the minimum group size a 22 rimfire will do at that distance but it shows it can be done.

I let a first time competitor to my range (Kenny Boyert) try out my Anschutz Exemplar 10" pistol try hitting the 197 yard rack and he just kept hitting them as they got smaller. He's the first one to ever run all ten in a row with a handgun. I haven't been able to do it yet but now will have to keep trying. That bugger does shoot and is competitive with all the high end rimfire rifles.

Mike Moore and Glenn Schnegg also ran all ten which brings the total to 10 shooters that have managed to do it including all the thousands of rounds shot at them on practice days. Great job to all three shooters, you earned a spot where all can look up and hope that they can also be included someday.

Jeff Stull brought his Daughter Megan to the match and she did very well, she's got a good tutor and someday I'm sure we'll see her at the top of the list on many match reports.

This month was also a new all time high for entry numbers, I had 39 with a few of the locals not being able to make it so it looks like interest is still there. Great practice for longrange CF or just enjoying the challenge of seeing how well the lowly 22 rimfire can do at distance.

OK, enough rambling on, lets get to the serious stuff. The winners for the drawings were Ted Kernik and Will Keller, the winner of the match is Mike Moore due to backwards count on the last target hit at 197. Will Keller also shot a great score and only lost due to Mike running the 197 rack and Will missed the last one but both shot extremely well. Mike will get a free entry next month.

I tried peep sights again but realize now being 63 that my eyes just aren't good enough anymore to see some target racks, they are so small I couldn't see them to properly aim. If I can see even a pin prick I can hit them, Ted Kernik and Chris Kirkpatrick also shot peep sights and their younger eyes make the difference. Great shooting guys, it was amazing to watch both of you pick off those small targets with those metallic sights.

This month for my bonus shot I placed a 2" x 6" plate somewhere between 95 yards and 145 yards. It's just behind my pond and there is no way to tell where it's placed, even I can't tell, it looks like it's right behind my stone wall at the ponds edge at 95 yards or right in front of a yellow shop box at 145 yards. It's so deceiving I can't even tell, looks like there is only a 2 or 3 yard difference between the wall and the box. Better be good at range finding to get this one. I offered help if asked on how to use the Mil-dot Master, some just guessed but some used their reticle to get a measurement and I showed them how to use the Mil-dot Master to get a yardage, some got a hit and others just weren't as exact in the way they measured but I think if I do it again more will hit it.

There were 100 targets to hit worth 1 point each with a bonus of 5 for a hit on the unknown distance target. No one has cleaned the course yet but I think it's getting close.
I do not include Chris, Charlene or My scores in our matches.
