Rifle Scopes Reticle Lighting is it really needed?

Hello,

Below is the config of the ST10 that I am planning on ordering. I got one of the uso cert from one of the SH members. My 5R project just got a Milspec OD green paint job, surefire brake and will have new Mcm stock sometime in feb.

The big question - Is the lighted reticle important for resale? And how much of an impact does it make for low light shooting. I realize it would sale for less than current models with it installed. I do not currently shoot in comps and have very limited experience shooting in low light condtions. Just like the fix power scopes. Thanks for your inputs.

I couldn't get to the range till late this afternoon to test some handloads.....used my illuminated reticle tonite. On any scope with a "fine reticle" like most "tactical scopes".....I find I really need the illumination win I use that scope hunting in the afternoons for deer. YMMV.

Lite reticle's are perfect for night hunting,... depending on which side of said objective you are.

Is an illuminated reticle really needed? Probably not for most, especially if you only do range shooting during the day.

Does it seem that everyone wants a lighted reticle become is it "tactical"? Yes, so it is important for resale.

An illuminated reticle is useful if you have a very fine reticle and have a dark background that hides it, shoot in low conditions, or hunt.

Thanks for the replies. I will go head and get it then. I understand USO is going to introduce a new scope at shot so I will wait to order next week.

I have the ST10 and ST10s and I've been shooting mornings through late afternoons and I had forgotten that I had a lit redicle.

A lighted reticle is for confidence for the professional assaulter. In reality, an illuminated reticle works only if there is ambient light, but if there is ambient light, the reticle does not need to illuminate. More light, actually, can worsen your eye's lowlight vision. One time an illuminated reticle helped me.

The target was being illuminated with a light projected onto it. My illuminated reticle helped to be sure the intersect of hairs I could see were were the horizontal and vertical stadia intersect, rather than the junction of a mil marker and the main stadia. I think I'm using stadia correctly.

I lite reticle is but a beacon at night saying, shoot me. You want to shoot at night w/o NV, get the thickest reticle you can.

I have Leupold Mk4 M5 30mm and never needed illumination.

I have a nightforce 8-32 NXS, I can still see the reticale just fine up to the point that I would need to use a light to see my target. I tryed to use the illumination a couple of times at night and it actualy hurt. It was so bright at the factory preset that I couldnt see the target. I have since turned it down but didnt really try it out I just shoot without it on. I shot a fox allready at 200 yards around 10pm without my illumination on, so its really not needed.
