hi guys, I'm just getting into precision shooting and I have been catching up to the podcasts starting at the first one.

I'm hearing alot of different stuff to do to be able to get your software and rifle in good shooting form, but I'm wondering how to go about it.

I'm hearing things like true range zero, 100 yard zero, scope tracking, truing bc's, trying muzzle velocity, form factor, using wind tools to help integrate environmental factors.

I bought a weatherflow weathermeter that will be here within the week, also bought the snipers hide datebook, ive been using strelok pro as my ballistic app, it has most of the things that the hornady app as just not form factor.

I've been working on the fundamentals that you have talked about and found out alot of information of stuff I've been doing wrong. I see my groups tightening and less reticle movement after the shot. I have also signed up for Frank's Minnesota class in August and am excited to do that.

I'm wanting to learn how to do it right the first time to be able to get into a right path to make sure I waste the least amount of ammo and make the most of every shot. I know there is no substitute for experience. I have my own private 1,000 yard range at my house. I have built my own rifle and I handload my own rounds. I shoot roughly 200 rounds a month at targets and I deer hunt.

I'm just wanting to know a step by step guide from rifle setup to zeroing, to checking scope accuracy to, putting all this stuff we know into practical use.

Step one: Sign up for online training!!!!!
Step two: Follow the guide for the order of lessons.

Seriously it has really helped me, rifle setup alone shrunk my groups by about .3 average. I've changed my entire setup based on what I've learned from the online training. also it will teach you the proper way to collect all the data you need before you start to change the software. I recommend Hornady's software for the ease of setup. If you youtube "Hornady + Zero" you will find their set up video and that really helped me as well. It will answer your questions about true range zero.

The true range zero is a fine tune adjustment and for 1000 yards with any software it’s not critical, but it helps to understand.

To set up software, you want to adjust using MV using your 500-600 yard numbers, then if you need a tweak, you true your BC using the 800 yard data. It should be minor doing it this way.

The fundamentals and rifle set up are key and I too would recommend the training videos to understand it further.

We repeat and clarify in a lot of the podcasts to help people break through the noise out there.

thanks sir for the info. I will sign up for your training.

I will have to try 800 yards with my gun. I dont know how good it will do at 800 as it's only a .308 gas gun with a 16" 1:8 twist stainless barrel shooting a 178gr eldx bullet at 2510 fps

You can defiantly reach 800 yards with that. I think 1:8 is better suited to the 168's but you can go that distance for sure. My 700 pushes the 175's at 2560 and I have taken it out to 1000 on steel.

Can I make a suggestion?? Walk before you run. Everyone, me included starts with the magical 1000 yard number in their head, get rid if it!!! Learn to drive your gun at all distances close on out to 1000. My range is only 600 here but I try to run my drills all the way out. I also have a gas gun and it's way harder to drive than my bolt. My JP is a 22" barrel and a 6.5. I can center punch a 4" target almost at will out to 600. But I find that I miss if I get sloppy. So I train until "I" got no more sloppy left.

I would train close in. Shoot your group at 100. Zero from there and then shoot groups at 200 300 400 500 and see how your gun fairs. Are your groups falling apart or not. If not keep going.
