Rifle won't hold zero... :(

So heres the deal, my rifle shoots well better then 1/2 minute groups but just doesn't hold zero. I don't know what the deal is. Specs on the rifle: Defiance Rebel long action in .300 winmag, Proof Research 22.5" barrel, in Manners TF-4 with a Timney. Oh, the optic is a really nice 20-60x Barska I got. Any ideas?

I'm gonna go ahead and say the barska and the rings. Ditch Em both. Especially on a win mag. Don't argue over the optic, jsut get something on par with your rifle. Put the barska on a 22 or 223.

how often are you cleaning. i have never seen a bad scope shoot consitently good groups. al my bad scopes had a poi shift of an inch or so every few shots. unless perhaps it has lost its purge. you got a back up scope to try.

I think it may be you, not the gun. Multiple groupings show understanding for sight alignment and trigger control, but inconsistent perspective of aim and/or inconsistent position. You may not have the same relationship between eyeball and eyepiece between shot strings or your position between shot strings is different. Such divergence invites inconsistent recoil resistance and arc of movement.

My budget for the build was 'newer used car' and I used what I had left over after the build for an optic... that was 1 tapco AK mag, 3 beanie babies, a shamwow and a gift certificate to this weird store in the mall that only sells olive oil. I traded all that for that fine optic. I'm watching Silent Trigger w/ Dolph Lundgrin now to learn new sniper skills, Tom Berenger is too outdated.

I am very sorry but the rifle is very flawed. It happens but don't worry I can solve this. I will take the rifle off your hands for $400. Keep the scope for your next rifle its a good one.

I just ordered a new Mark 6 a week ago and waiting for that to show up. I figured it was worth a laugh. lol Pinching my pennies for a Mark 8 later in the year. I haven't even shot that rifle yet, it's virgin. Crescent Customs assembled it and my buddy who had an identical rifle built shoots 1/4 min with hand loads out of his (208 amax, H100, Norma brass if I remember right). I'm itching to shoot it.

I would keep an eye on the for sale section here, or maybe Craig's List, for a sweet deal on a Counter Sniper scope. You can't get them anymore, so they are very valuable and difficult to find in good condition.
