Re: rim thickness gauge

Here is a good read about rim thickness and what effect it has on 22lr.

Make your own conclusion, but most everyone has came up with it does no good to test for rim thickness as the results from doing so do not make a measurable difference. I would like to see testing like this with bullet weight to see if it does have a measurable difference of if it is just another "old wives tale".

Re: rim thickness gauge

I disagree, it works for me. Here is my data from rim gauging.

Rifle - customized 10/22. Kidd 20" Match barrel.
Ammo - Eley Club (Orange Box)
Range - 50 yards
Groups - Average of 5 groups of 5 shots measure edge to edge minus 0.221 using digital calipers

.031 & .032* - 0.56"
.033 - 0.33"
.034 - 0.24"
.035 - 0.27"
.036 - 0.41"
.037 - 0.47"
.038 & .039* - 0.51"
* ammo was combined as there wasn't enough to come up with 25 rounds

As you can see, my rifle shot the .034" rim thickness the best by half.
