Rim X – Barrel work done by Mike at Manzella Precision. If you are on the fence for "needing" a precision 22lr.... Just do it!
I was fortunate to be in a spot where I could start my RimX build. After looking around for barrels and talking with several great gunsmiths. I decided to use Manzella Precision. Mike did an excellent job working with me to ensure I received what I wanted, and not just what I thought I needed.
Starters: I am nothing more than just a redneck looking to up my trigger time on a platform similar to my CF platforms (being a guy who really likes his Zermatt TL3). The RimX seemed to be the most logical action choice. I have access to a Vudoo and would have likely bought a Vudoo if it wasn’t for having success with the Zermatt team already.
Barrel: I started by talking to some of the recommended machinists here on Snipershide. We are lucky to have such a great community and obviously some serious talent, but when I spoke to Mike. He truly seemed to share as much excitement about my purchase as I hoped to have when I received the barrel. Mike and I discussed my goals for about 20 mins over lunch and hung up. I will admit I was bummed about my poor planning as barrel availability seemed slim to none via Google searches (wanted a Krieger .. not saying others are bad, I just wanted to add a Krieger to my collection) Shortly after our discussion Mike calls me back with great excitement and inform me he had happened to find the same barrel I had been shopping for. Mike stated no pressure to use me, I am happy to sell you the barrel if you decide to go with a different machinist, but I’m going to buy a couple of them for future customers, and let me know if you are interested (hint hint… call Mike now if you are looking for a Krieger .22lr barrel). I sat on this information overnight, and like the Grinch, my heart started to grow. I called Mike and asked to purchase one of the barrels, and if he had the availability in the near future I would like him to chamber and thread it for me.
Finished Product: RimX, Hawkins M5 DBM, Krieger M24 Eachus Chamber, 22” long w1/2-28 threads and 0.600 tendon, Manors LRH, DeadAir Mask, and Vortex PST scope.
Results: exceptional performance and customer updates with images and videos sent during the build, fast turnaround - Absolutely great experience.
With 600rds down it over the last 4 days. I could post a bunch of groups, but really does it matter? The great ones will just be called cherry-picked, and bad ones will be called a bad lot, wind, or flyer. The fact is my accuracy expectation is very high, and this gun will outshoot me. I couldn't be a happier customer, and if you get the opportunity to work with Mike at Manzella Precision, don't hesitate as it was a first-class experience.
The short of it is I don’t post much online, but I felt Mike deserved public credit for his customer service, and precision machine work.
Well done Mike!
