Anyone here playing the rimfire F-class game?

Starting to kick around the notion of adding rimfire F-class matches to the list at our club; I've got some targets on order so hopefully a few of us can get together and give it a try and see if it's something worth doing in the winter months when the fog makes seeing the targets @ 300 or 600 a no-go.

Rimfire F-Class is a blast! I used to compete in our local NRA-santioned smallbore prone matches using a coat, sling, and aperture sights, but now it's F-Class all the way. I hate wearing a shooting coat in the hot Colorado summers, and with max magnification on the gun of 30-50x, you don't need a spotting scope. And of course you use a bipod.

The NRA amended the smallbore rules a few years ago to allow F-Class shooters to compete in the sanctioned matches, and it seems to be a growing segment.

How serious do the people shooting rimfire F-class get at your club? I've seen some pics of rigs that were a little over the top - basically full-on BR rigs, on the ground.

I'm trying to gauge how much, if any, crossover there might be from the folks shooting 'accurized' rimfires like what you might see in NRL22/PRS22, vs. people putting a scope on their conventional Prone rifles.

The single-load rule seems like it might be a bit of a deal killer for a lot of folks who don't have a dedicated single-shot target rifle to bring to the party... though a bit of Googling seems to indicate that there are a lot more options for single-shot adapters for various guns than there would have been even 5 years ago, thanks to the advent of 3D printing.

Everybody here at the Colorado Rifle Club is using single-feed match rifles, but we welcome new shooters with repeaters if they single feed their rounds. We want to make it easy for people to join the fun.....

I personally run an Anny 1907 with an S&B 12-50x56 and CKYE pod, but I have the disease, and I am sick?.

You got me thinking about the NRA rules on single feed vs repeater, and I can't find it, but I believe it is written down somewhere in here:

With that rule a person with a magazine could just load one round in the magazine and then insert it and fire and then load another magazine with one round so repeaters can work I would think.

It would be a great option for the complaints of those who don't like the movement of NRL22.

Actually, what I was kind of kicking around in my head (haven't talked with our NRL22 guy yet) was the possibility of running a match (or shortened version thereof) after the NRL22 event winds down. Give people a little more trigger time once they've made the drive over for one match, might as well do two ;)

A lot of clubs do that. I have shot matches like that before. NRL match and then more stages out past 100 yards.

I did ask him about doing the nra stuff after this next match as a test. I received a favorable response.??

We do often have an additional 5 stages of no gear restrictions post NRL22 match. And longer distances, going out to 300 plus.

Wevhave a lot of various types of 22 rimfire matches in our area including NRL, PRS, outlaw styles of each long-range and ELR matches.

The match I run at my house is a combination precision/long-range match with varying sizes and shaped steel target racks from 25 yards to 197 yards. It's shot from a couple benches but I don't allow benchrest type front/rear rests, front bipods and rear bags are used including the F-class type front bipods.

Sizing the right size target to each distance keeps it challenging and if one gets too easy then I just switch in another one or more it to another location. Quite a few of my shooters can't do the PRS/NRL types with all the moving and changing positions. My type of match combines the accuracy needed to hit small targets and also having to deal with reading the condition for each shot as the distances increase.

Just to add a bit of spice my last match of the year was with a time limit. 100 rounds in a bowl, 80 targets to hit with a 20 minute time limit. Shooters had to hit each target as they progressed further out, they had to spot their own hits/misses but could take a spotter whenever they felt one was needed.

Score was calculated using targets hit, rounds used or left over and time used. Pretty much a Comstock type calculation, most hits with most rounds still left and fastest made for a really fun shoot.

Lots of ways to have a match for all of us to keep it fun and challenging. Here is a little clip of my racks for one of the matches.

It's a lot of fun. We just had our 2nd Smallbore match and our first as part of ASSA. Ran a 1200 match! Our next match is in Feb and it will be an 1800 for National record! 12 shooters at our first and 10 at this shoot. Thanksgiving weekend was not the best time to plan it. Like some of the other ranges we allowed 5 rounds max in the mag. Can't shoot through a condition. I have a single feed adapter for my vudoo, one screw and it's in and works awesome. I shot a 199, 199, 197 at 50 and 196, 195, 197 at 100 with a total of 53x's with a MDT bipod and weibad fortune cookie in 15 mph full value wind. With the right set up my repeater rifle will be fine! Also the single feed adapter works awesome!
