Attached are some Black Death and KYL targets. These look like they were made for rimfire. I haven't tried them yet but it does look pretty challenging.
What some shooters don't realize is how much the wind can affect the POI at even a close distance of 50 yards. I realize that just about every member of this forum already knows that but I tell new shooters and even the kids how much the wind will affect their POI.
According the JBM ballistics a 10 MPH crosswind on my standard velocity Norma/RWS 40 grain bullet will cause it to drift 1.2 inches at 50 yards. When you look at the Black Death targets or the KYL targets you can see how, with even the most accurate rimfire rifle, the wind can mess you up.
Let's look at the drift for the various wind velocities of a standard velocity bullet at 50 yards.
10 MPH - 1.2"
5 MPH - .6"
4 MPH - .48"
3 MPH - .36"
2 MPH - .24"
1 MPH - .12"
I don't know about anyone else but when the wind gets down to less the 3 MPH, I can barely feel it on my face. So if you are trying to hit a 1/4" KYL target it is pretty challenging even with a 2 MPH crosswind.
Put money on it and it can get a little stressful. Start the competition with saying that the loser has to wear a dress... Well, I don't know what that would be like cause those stakes are a little too high. I don't think I would take that challenge.
I got the KYL target that is reviewed in the video. Bill Black was great to work with and the target is everything that he says it is. The only thing that I did to the target was polish the inside of the pipe that the horizontal bar resides in with 200 grit sand paper.
So far I haven't found anyone locally that will shoot against me as my Anschutz 64 MPR with MDT chassis and Gen II PST Viper 5-25X scares most people away. I let the kids shoot my rifle and they are pretty good on about the first seven targets. Here's the link.
https://yourtarget.biz/ I highly recommend the KYL target that Mr. Black makes.
I'd like to see some competition like this around where I live. If I recall correctly a hit on the bar holding the plate does not count.
