RimX, PVA or Keystone?

Neither. I've been burned more than once by both of them. I know, slow learner here. Get a Proof pre-fit that's better and cheaper, or find a lesser known smith who actually gives a damn and will do it right. Also, precision rimfire is an endless rabbit hole. You won't know what your gun likes until you know. Even different lots of ammo can shoot significantly different. So start just start out with the best components that you can and then test until you're satisfied.

I would just buy a Vudoo personally. I know a bunch of people with both and IMO its going to have a higher chance of running really well out of the box and for a long time.

Vudoo's come as a barreled action from the factory. You choose between a Bartlien or ACE barrel. You can have any stock, trigger, ect when you order.
I spent years working on and fixing small arms. I don't have the time or the patience to deal with that shit anymore, and I want my stuff to run with minimum maintenance and effort. I don't pay top price to have to work on my own stuff. Thats what I pay others for.

Yeah I really don’t want a vudoo. I’ve played with a bunch of them and really don’t like how they feel. The 90 or the 60.

I have 3 Keystone barrels. The first was a very early one; it has a very tight chamber and it took a little time to wear in to feed smoothly, but after that it has worked perfectly. I also had them do 1:9 and 1:6 twist barrels. No complaints whatsoever with the 1:9 barrel, it functions flawlessly and was done exactly how I requested. The 1:6 barrel also works flawlessly, although I asked for non-threaded and got a threaded barrel (I was not charged for the threading). Not exactly what I asked for, but it functions perfectly. And John also worked with me on getting the chamber that I wanted for shooting the Cutting Edge 50gn copper bullets (the other 2 were the regular match chambers). No complaints on accuracy with any of them.
RimX had some early issues with extractors and tensioners, but they have addressed those problems. The only other issue I have run into is that a couple times the mag adjustment piece has come loose, which may be my fault. I am very happy with my RimX rifles.

I think most people expect their 22lr build to go as smooth as a centerfire and unfortunately that's just not the case. Everything is a little bit more sensitive with a 22lr, I have had success with barreled actions, prefits, and using a gunsmith, and I have had problems with each also. Just be prepared to have to work with it some and enjoy the process. Most work just fine, I have only had one barrel that was cut wrong but the smith made it right.
I've been researching RimX barrels for a couple of weeks now and there are two big differences between PVA and Proof:
1) PVA offers a 12 twist which they claim helps with accuracy beyond 200 yards (vudoo also claims that faster twist barrels also help with LR accuracy).
2) Proof only offers a 16 twist.
First figure out what twist you want (plenty of options for 16 twist, fewer for fast twist barrels).

Call Fred at bison tactical. He has modacam custom rifles prefits for rimx you won’t be disappointed.
I have several RimX barrels done by Keystone, and all of them have been fantastic. I have PVA do a 1:12, and it wouldn't even feed.
TS Customs does a lot of work with Rim-X's. @orkan sells built TS Customs Rim-X's as well.

No issues with keystone here. I bought after the initial run had issues with chamfer? I think it was.

Not cheap, but perhaps you get what you pay for.
Rimfire has nuances to it that center-fire doesn't, it's much more of a gamble to try the "plug and play" technique with rimfire.
You're correct. Yet have you ever heard of anyone that has problems with ours?
It took me over 10 years to figure out the "right" way to do all of this before we ever sold our first RimX. That's worth something to some people, and not worth anything to others. We're here for those that find it valuable.
We have 26" MTU's with tuners, actions, triggers, Foundation stocks... on hand ready to go.
I’m not saying it’s not better I’m just trying to figure out if I need it. It would take some more saving on my end would would just delay the build a little longer. Not in a hurry just trying to take all of this custom rimfire stuff in.
I guess I need to call for a quote if I’m wanting a smaller profile and shorter barrel?

I had a rimx and wasn't impressed With accuracy. Bought a proof barrel and it was okay. There is something to said about a man's craft. Your paying part of that price for years of expertise.
For those who have read my posts know I own several Vudoos. And the best 2 shooters came straight from Vudoo. Set up ready to go. Going to be the same with a rimx.
If I wanted a factory rifle on a 90 degree platform bergara gets the nod. For a 60 cz gets the nod. Cz has been the most flawless of anything I have seen from gun to gun. Will it shoot with a full custom built Rimx by someone who knows what they are doing or a vudoo that's been set up properly.....not likely.
And for those say my "whatever" shoots almost as good as a vudoo or Rimx. In a game of precision almost doesn't get it. "Close" is for horse shoes and handgrenades.

No. As you mentioned, pretty hard to control whether someone has lot testing knowledge, access to ammo or facilities to do it, or how to run a tuner. To my knowledge, we've never had a 22lr leave here that couldn't at least shoot in the .2's consistently at 50yds, (when the above knowledge has been applied)
You'll have trouble trying to find someone with an accuracy/precision complaint.

I bought a PVA 12T and it was a freaking hammer. Guy on here bought it from me and it's still hammering for him. I am currently shooting a Di Precision 22" MTU w/ EC Tuner and it is a hammer. I am fixing to send a 25" Krieger 1.25" blank and EC Tuner to Modicam to be spun up for action #2.

I have had two RimX. One from Keystone and one from Desert Precision Gunworks. Both function flawlessly with many many thousands of rounds down the pipe (3k+ I have lost count honestly). Both shoot a variety of ammo very well and I wouldn’t call either of them picky. Sure some lots shoot better than others but I shoot steel out to 350 yards without issue. The Keystone was sold to my brother after we took it out together and I bought another one so that’s how I got two. Love the RimX and the magazines are just fantastic. Easy to load and never had any issues whatsoever. Just dropped the RimX into a MPA chassis with very little playing around with it.
I started with a 20" mtu from Hunts long range prefit and it was a feeding nightmare. So when Josh started offering the 1:12 twist barrels 3ish years ago I bought a 24" mtu and it's been a hammer with center x and sk ong range. Well just about anything running 1080+ speeds . And zero feeding issues .
I did pick up a Keystone 24" 16t in a 1.200. Strait prefit last winter I have only spun on to test about 6 different boxes of ammo. But so far so good.

There is more than 1 person in this thread that had issues with PVA rimfire and centerfire barrels. I would't spend a dime with them.

Probably going with a Proof CF. When Zermatt recommended them he said they were all running them internally with success. I can get the length and weight exactly where I want it as well.
Front range precision has the best deals on proof. Send him a message, he has been able to do package deals if you need extra mags/accessories.
Yep, I bought my action from him so will be getting the barrel there too.
I have 22lr RIM-X rifles. I put them together myself...I call them JuNkWorKs
#1 has a 1:14 Straight Jacket Armory 18"
#2 has a 1:12 Lothar Walther 22"

I personally have 3 Vudoos, 2 direct from Vudoo, and 1 that is getting a custom Krieger spun up at Modacam. A few of my friends have Vudoos and a few of them have RimX's.
The Vudoos straight from Vudoo have outshot the RimX's significantly - these were Proof Prefit (worse), Keystone Prefit (slightly better), PVA Prefit (better). Recently had a Krieger prefit done by Modacam put on the RimX and it has shot the best so far but still hasn't bested the Vudoo.
We have 2 more Vudoos with Modacam Krieger's coming and another for a RimX all with EC Tuners machined in to them and we'll be able to compare more in a few weeks with our different lots of Center-X/Midas/Eley.

I’ve had both. I only have RimX’s now.
I have been flirting with another rrimx build to give it another shot. I have talked to littlepod in the past at length. Trust his results. This right here told me all I needed to know.
If people honestly think RimX's don't shoot amazing... those people should reconsider who they are getting them from.
I don't think any action is the issue, I think majority of the magic is in the barrel and headspacing. Ultimately some firing pin is hitting the rim of the bullet, assuming the bullet is in the chamber and headspaced correctly, the action isn't doing all that much. Both RimX and Vudoos and other actions have the capability of putting a round into the chamber unmarred. So the magic is in the barrel and chamber and crown work.
Your Primal chamber, or the Vudoo Ravage chamber, or DI Precision or Modacam's chamber seem to have a good amount of proven precision. I don't trust barrels that come with Bentz chambers or some factory reamer when I think most of the magic is in these custom smith's chambers.
I just sent in a barrel to be sure for a Rim-X prefit from Modacam. He’s done my center fire rifle chambering for years and they have all been stellar. He was doing 40x rimfire repeaters before Rim-X and Vudoo were around, and he cuts the barrels for the PRS/NRL 22 champion. I have confidence in his work.
Here was the Lothar Walther Rim-X barrel's performance for the day. Shot the 6 x 5 with cold bore then 2 more 5 shot groups and a 10 round group to finish off.

DPG is building mine, after reading all the stories here and running numbers back and forth. Well let's get real we are spending multiple thousands of dollars on a 22. Why should I save a couple hundred dollars not knowing if I'm getting the best out of my rig. We are buying what we feel is the best why not make sure it is going to shoot it's best. If I put the rifle together and it shoots .5s (and we won't even talk about feeding and extraction issues) pay 500.00 more and it shoots. 2s. Well that's is worth the price of admission for myself.
I know people have good luck with prefits, one thing to remember this is not center fire where you can adjust your reloads by bumping the shoulder back.
