The old "mount scope as low as possible" saw no longer holds true (if it ever did) in this age of adjustable combs (cheek piece on the stock) and ballistic solvers.
All of my ring sets are 1.26" high; I use the adjustable comb to achieve correct vertical head placement. This has worked for scopes with objective bells 44mm-56mm in diameter and barrel contours up to Heavy Varmint (nearly cylindrical). All you have to do is enter the scope height (distance in inches between center of bore and center of scope tube at the turrets) in your calculator.
I check rifle fit pretty much the same way I did shotgun fit back in my skeet days: Get into shooting position, close eyes, mount gun in single smooth motion, open eyes. With rifle, is my head comfortably cheek welded with my eye centered in the scope's eyebox? If not, adjust comb and/or length of pull, repeat. Of course, "perfect" length of pull is dependent on shooting position, but comb height not so much if at all.
Bring the gun to you. Don't go to the gun. Forcing your head into an uncomfortable position to satisfy an old wive's tale is senseless.
