Scope ODs vary with Mfg. & finish. Different optics fit differently in same or different rings. For example, NF seems a tad fatter and NF or Badger rings fit well. The most notable ring marks I can recall are with TPS rings and Weaver style where the upper ring-cap surpasses 1/2 the optic tube diameter without a decent finish or chamfer on the bottom to click on.
Fitting a scope for reticle adjustment and eye relief can take some time, also the scope can rotate during initial torque. I spray food-grade silicone on the optic tube before fit. I don't have any worry that this practice would cause the scope to utimately slip. Use a quality torque wrench. Torque depends on the hardware but 16in-lbs in a quality 4-screw ring cap is my mode.
I would'nt use ring that has a glued insert.
