I finally got my Rem 700 AAC last week. Put the base on and went to mount the scope. Base and rings are both Badger. Scope is a Vortex Viper PST 6-24. Badger instructions say to put the rings as far apart on the base as possible. I got my eye relief set and then went back to move the rings out as far as possible. I was able to get them set at the extreme ends of the base(very last slots). Now, my concern is that both rings are basically at the limits of where they can mount on the scope body. At the back is right where the 30mm tube starts to expand out for the eye piece. On the front is right where the tube starts to expand out for the objective. There is maybe 1mm prior to the scope body starting to expand. I wish I had taken some pictures.

Should I move my rings in one slot on the rail and re-level and re-torque? I dont really think the scope is going to move under recoil, but I just wasnt sure if I was going to cause any issues by mounting this far out on the scope.

I put them in the center between the eye piece and saddle and the saddle and the objective. Doesn't matter where on the rail they end up as it might be forward or back depending on the eye relief setting. When tightening the ring to the rail though push it forward towards the muzzle so the cross bar in the ring seats against the front of the rail cutout. This sets it so under recoil it's metal to metal.

Thanks. I think when I get home on Sunday night I will move them in a notch so they arent right at the limits of where they could be on the scope. Once I get my chassis I am sure I will have to reset them again.

I have the same hardware and set it up with the front ring at the very forward end of the base and the rear ring one notch forward from the rear of the base. This gives me good eye relief and the rings still have some forward/ rearward adjustment travel for the scope.

What height rings did you use?

I think you misunderstood. I didn't say move the ring on the scope tube all the way forward as you don't want it all the way out to the objective or into the turret saddle. You want them in the center between the eye piece and turrets and turrets and objective.

What I said about all the way forward was about the rings themselves in the base slots. Doesn't matter what slot but so the cross bolt on the ring is metal to metal with the front of the rail slot.

No I was tracking you. My rings are currently in the slots on the base as far out as they will go and I need to move both of them in towards the center a slot(or two) to get them more centered on the scope tube.

Ok just making sure you weren't confusing when i said push the rings all the way forward in the slots so they are set for recoil with having them all the way forward on the scope tube.
